I just became the very happy owner of an '08 CTS. I've always done my first oil change for any performance motor after about 500 miles. I know that's pretty old school and I know the CTS manual says to drive easy for the first 500 but doesn't say anything about an early oil change. Not knowing much(or anything actually) about the CTS DI motor I decided to ask the all knowing experts here.
Did my first @1200 miles.
Will do intervals of <> 7/8 thousand if oil usage supports this.*
* if oil usage is a qt every 5000.........then that will be my interval.
I won't run an engine more than 1 qt low, ad it seems a bit silly to me to put in a qt of oil for jut a few miles.....
And most people believe that GM engines use more oil than most.
I intend to do the first change at about 1500 miles, which is sufficient to get out most of the metal shavings and other gunk that accumulate during engine break-in. However, after that, I plan on following GM's advice and change when the Oil Life Monitoring System says to, or once a year, whichever comes first. The engine is lubricated with Mobil 1 synthetic, which can go for a very, very long time without losing viscosity, so the only issues are dirt and acidity, which the system monitors. I've seen year-old oil come out of my previous cars (2004 E55 and 2006 CLS500) that looked new.
my sales said @ 3000, i think time need to be taken into consideration too. if you rarely drive over a long period of time, even if the miles havent meet, there should be some maintenance work require also
