Similar problem happened to me - was driving along, *beep* "Reduced Power" message in DIC, and Check Engine light came on. OnStar gave me a code "P0087" said something about the transmission not getting power to the wheels or something, suggested I bring it in. Looks like I'll be heading to the dealer tomorrow morning *sigh*
The dealer said it was "Erratic Fuel Pressure" - is this a common problem or something special just for me? I couldn't find much about a P0087 code anywhere.
They had to order a part (not sure which), and of course it's back-ordered, so I don't know when I'm going to get my car back Right now, they have me in a Monte Carlo - what a POS.
FYI, they're replacing the fuel pump, unfortunately, it looks like I won't have my car back until Monday.
I found this TSB, which sounds like my problem - this looks like an electrical problem, though. Hopefully they're not replacing the fuel pump when it's really a wiring issue.
the mention of a problem with the throttle body does ring a bell, there was a poster on the sts forum that had the same conditions when it failed....in fact, he's on his second throttle body....the dealer or cadillac would not say what exactly the problem was with the t/b...there are lots of electronic sensors that hook up to the t/b...so it could be mechanical or it could be electronic.
do you live in a warm climate? the poster that i cited was in the middle east....
After I picked the car up on the fifth it had a lot more power. So much so I was surprised it was the same car. The down side is the noise level went up significantly; I am still not sure about that situation. The car seemed to be fine.
The Dealer was never able to track down what happened and took their best and educated shot by replacing the transmission module and something else. I am not sure what else; I was told they would send me the report. The mechanic had not finished with it when I was there to pick up the car.
I now have a car I am not confident to drive; it is unnerving when I look back among all the other symptoms the power steering went out with the motor running. I am having a hard time with that, I mean at highway speed it could be a death sentence.
I will post again when I know exactly what they did. Again the dealer has/is doing all that they know to fix the problem and for all I know they have. Trouble is nobody will ever know for sure.
Will post when I know exactly what they did.
I live in Colorado It can be very hot or very cold.
I am gonna be honest man I leased a Cadillac for like a year, didn't like it at all. Thank god it was only a 11 month lease off Swapalease. Best advice to you is get a Acura, Audi, or a Hybrid
the noisy fuel pump is something rather endemic to some makes and models...definitely not a "cadillac thing"....this issue has been around for many years...ever since the use of electric fuel pumps: i.e. electronic fuel injection. a noisy fuel pump CAN be an indicator of imminent failure, but not always...some noisy pumps are just...noisy...they will stay like that forthe life of the vehicle. i don't hear any f/p noise in my caddy...my wife's audi has it and is rather nioticeable...you get used to it....

off topic, but these types of posts aren't going to make you friends around here.. if you DON'T own a cadillac, then why are you on the forums??
So much to what I hoped would be the end of the story!
Today in traffic making a left turn in a busy intersection all the lights came on and to my horror the CTS lost power and the power steering went out. The car still had power, if the pedal were put to the floor, a whopping 3mph.
I was grateful for the 3 miles per hour while wrestling the steering wheel, thinking we were going to die from a broad side in traffic. Three miles an hour was just enough to get across and into the shopping center. We would have been goners at 2mph!!!
I guess whatever the dealer replaced was not the problem. Now the problem is a wife who will no longer drive the car and for that matter I may not either. You have to experience a power loss and power steering loss while in the cross hair of on coming traffic. Once, pulling onto a side street from a parking lot at work, the second time in heavy traffic. “I’m a thinkin this aint no good, glad it was not in the mountains going around a corner”.
So again I ask, if anyone has a clue please respond. I do appreciate all who have responded to this point. We hope those of you who have had similar problems been able to have the difficulty corrected. I have a very bad feeling about my car.
Tune in for updates and hopefully a fix.
My intent is not to bash Cadillac; I think the CTS is a fine car. For that matter a better car than the full size Jag I had till I purchased this CTS.
My intent is maybe, just maybe someone else has had this happen. After all it is a first year car. Not to mention someone could get killed and that is no shit. I live in Colorado and meant every word about going around a corner in the mountains or 80 mph on the highway. It was hard enough to wrestle the car into the parking lot.
Having said that, I love the car and hope a concrete fix can be found. But I will not put others or myself at risk for something that to this point is unpredictable.
