Drivers Window "thunks" when opened all the way

I am requesting this again, as I am looking for ANYONE else out there that has this same problem. Any response "yes or no" would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a 2008 CTS-4 with Nav etc. that I bought 11/07. It has 7,000 miles on it. I use the drivers window perhaps twice a week since Spring started. While the car was being serviced at the dealership they had the drivers door panel off.

When I picked it up I coincidently noticed that when I now put the driver's window down, it makes a hard thunk type noise when it "hit's bottom" or is opened all the way.

None of the other windows do this.

I am told that this happens with use, and that there is nothing that can be done as the sound will return. I find this hard to believe as this is a Caddy and I thought I was getting the best, and at the same time, I want to give them a fair shake as they are pretty good guys, but don't want to accept something if it isn't normal.

Please do me a favor when you read this. Please check your windows for this occurance. Please respond either way on the forum after you have checked and let me know if you too have this sound and what your mileage is.

Thank You all so very much.

Re: Drivers Window "thunks" when opened all the way

No. Don't know what good mileage is. 1460 miles.
I move the window down all the way at least once every week when I go to the ATM. However I have owned the car only 4 months. I wish they would tell ME that nothing could be done. That's quite frankly, BS.
But, if you refuse to take it to another dealer, then you get what you deserve.

Re: Drivers Window "thunks" when opened all the way

Thank You. I guess I thought that I would get lesser service at a dealership than the one that I bought the car at, and then typing that seemed odd.

Is there a place that I could go to at GM to get answers?

Again, thanks.

Re: Drivers Window "thunks" when opened all the way

I have no experience with this...with Cadillac.

But with other cars when I have had problems with a dealership service department, I would try once or twice to work it up through their management.
If I got no satisfaction, and I have had that happen with Nissan, I would just go to another dealership and we would get agreement up front that the issue was under warranty and needed to be repaired. If we agreed on this, then I would have them do the job.
There is no reason your window should "thunk" or bottom out, now or even when the car is old.

But as Koz says, you can get hold of Customer Assistance.

Here is their web site.

Note that you have a couple of items that might particularly interest you.

You can report a problem you are having
you can find the answer to a vehicle related question.

OR you can call them.

Your name, address, and home and daytime telephone numbers
Your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), which can be found on your registration
Dealership name and location
Vehicle delivery date and current mileage
Nature of your concern

Re: Drivers Window "thunks" when opened all the way

Just went out and tried it......no clunk sound. Mine is a month and one half old.
To my way of thinking, each time it "clunks", it is putting a stress on the linkage. Sooner or later there will be a problem. I would definitely have this resolved if I were you.

Re: Drivers Window "thunks" when opened all the way

to dstilson, i went out and tried seven different 08 cts windows in my svc dept, all with varying mileage and not a noise from a single one. regardless if your dealer says its normal..MAKE HIM PROVE IT TO YOU, tell him you want to see another 08 that makes the same noise. one thing you need to understand... the survey you get in the mail means the WORLD to your dealer. on that survey it is 2 grades completely satified is passed anything else is fail. hold that survey to him. at this point and time another dealer may not want to help but they are contractually bound to do so regardless of what they tell you.so you do have options, if your dealer wont help you, call cadillac .... they will

Re: Drivers Window "thunks" when opened all the way

Funny you should ask this question. I have not noticed it on my CTS, but it's not that old and I don't put the windows down much.

But I do have an '08 Corvette that is now 10 months old with almost 5,000 miles on it. The last couple of times I've put the windows down - which I do a lot in that car, I thought I noticed a "clunk" when they hit bottom. I've been wondering if I just never noticed it before. I'm still not sure
