The CTSs are still incredibly hot, therefore hard to keep in stock (especially the loaded ones). The "entry luxury" segment is down 3% Year to date, but CTS sales are up 70%, so you can imagine how hard it is for GM to meet inventory demands.
If you buy a car at another Dealer your local Service department will still give you excellent service. We don't discriminate based on where someone buys a car, especially since Service and Sales are like two separate businesses under the same roof- they don't care where you bought it, they just want to service it. If you're able to find the car you want, go ahead and get it without fear of service issues.

Bob,
Sometimes I can't believe how dense Dealers can be. Your order was marked "built out" because the Light Platinum color is discontinued- they should have informed you of that before you placed your order.
I have several Light Platinums in stock and would be glad to work with you on one if your local Dealers can't handle your needs. My cell phone number is in my signature, as well as a link to my web site where you can email me.

Tony,
To be fair to my dealer, he had never seen the "built out" tag, and they didn't post it until nine weeks after I ordered it. I ordered a loaded 2WD on Feb. 21st. From what I understand, that was six weeks before they announced they would stop taking orders for Lt Platinum. Apparently, the constraints delayed build and then at some point they just quit painting the Lt Plat. color. Wouldn't you think that Cadillac might know what was up with my order? What was very disappointing is the fact that we found exact matches to my order built after my order and sent to dealers for inventory. Not sold. Strange. Now I am looking at buying a car that will be a year old in a few months. Cadillac can do better.
Maybe I was too harsh on your Dealer, but "Built out" is pretty self explanatory.
How quickly a Dealer gets a car built and delivered depends on their allocation. If the Dealer you ordered from didn't get allocation for your car (or had constraints on options you wanted) then the factory will build cars for other Dealers in the meantime. It's too bad the timing conspired against you on the color, but look at the bright side- had it been built quickly you'd have received a car without Bluetooth, and now you'll get one with it. I'm considering purchasing an '08 myself, and the 2.9% APR and $1,000 loyalty should make up for any accelerated depreciation due to the '09s coming soon.
Well the deal should be done. I went for an 1:20 ride north. I made a deal on a fully loaded cts and put a deposit on it. The deal is not as sweet as the dealer I have been deal with, but at least they have what I want coming in.
Tony, I still think that Cadillac should take their customers a little more seriously. Did I lose my order, or place in line? Who knows? Did they offer me another color? No. Did they communicate anything to me or the dealer? No. Would BMW or Lexus treat their customers like that? ?????
You see my point? If you want to win customers over, then prove it!
I agree with Bob. I ordered a Lt. Platinum 08 on January 2nd. Regular calls to my dealership and Cadillac directly yielded the same results, production date has not been established yet. This went on for months, then in mid-April I get a call from my dealer. He tells me that he just learned that Lt. Platinum has been discontinued. I was given the option of selecting a different color, or ordering an 09, price, options and production date to be determined. Needless to say, they still have my $1000 deposit and I have no idea what I am going to get or when. Heck of a way to do business.
Wow, I can't believe they discontinued Lt. Platinum. Isn't that your basic silver? So there won't be any silver available, just dark gray....weird, I thought silver was a popular color. The dealer I went to for my "disappointing test-drives" had at least three silvers, which is what I wanted....but of course, the two I drove had issues...
I have a $1,000 deposit sitting at two different dealers for a total of 2,000.
Dealer one said he could locate one for me but I need to place a deposit. Two weeks go by he finds nothing yet. Last week at dealer two he said he has one coming in this week. We make a deal and I place another deposit.
I'm now looking at this print out of the car. I notice the current event code is 3800 - produced. According to this then the car hasn't even been shipped yet! I don't know how long shipping will take but I have a feeling it's not going to be this week.
If the invoice was up on the Cadillac website and showed the dealer had the vehicle wouldn't the dealer been invoiced for it?
I'm so impatient I can't even wait a week, while people can wait 2 months.
The silver will be back for 09. They must of had a problem with the paint maybe. Silver was $1,000
To add my own $0.02 worth of sour grapes to this thread. GM and my dealer are doing their very best NOT to take$40+K of my dough as well. I have been to dealer three times and at last visit was told the Sales manager was going to order a Lt Platinum for me. A week goes by (during which, thanks to this web site, I find out that GM had curtailed this color) without any word from my salesman. When he finally gets around to calling me he still doesn't know about the Lt Platinum cut off nor does his sales manager. When I inform him he says that he'll get back with me. To date, all I hear are crickets chirping.
I am supremely underwhelmed by this approach to (ahem) customer service.
It's not like I NEED a new car, I'm driving a 2005 Infiniti G35 coupe (which isn't a shabby ride by any stretch). I wanted the CTS because of its appearance and yes, getting suckered in by the onslaught of advertising as well.
Now, I'm thinking a wait and see attitude is better, there's lotsa new rides on the horizon...
I just kept going to different dealers to find one that had the car I wanted in stock. I did not want to take a chance with ordering a car, waiting for it and having it come in possibly with a problem. I wanted to test-drive the actual car I'd be buying. Maybe I'm lucky because there are a lot of dealers in the metro Phila. area., and I didn't care about AWD (they didn't have any of these in stock).
