XM Special after Free Trial

This is my first post, so forgive me if it already exists somewhere in the forum.

I found out that instead of the standard $12.95/month subscription, you can call 1-800-347-0600 and tell them you want to sign up for the $77 / year renewal. They will start it at the end of the trial. Also, if you give them a credit card they will give you $12.95 credit. Total is $64.05 + tax for 1 year.

It took five minutes on the phone. All you need is your XM radio id, go to channel 0 on XM and it will show in the display if you do not have it.

John,
Thanks. While the regulars know this, there are always new members of the forum everyday. So they'll appreciate knowing this, thanks to you. BTW, I see you are like me in that you also think Radiant Bronze was the the bomb.

Enjoy the car!

Didn't know about the $12.95 credit so I consider this
a valuable post.

Re: XM Special after Free Trial

My 3 month trial period ended on the first of this month and just yesterday I recieved a post card, didn't read the fine print but it said come back to xm and get 3 months for $5.00 a month. I have the postcard at home but I'm hopeing they merge with sirius soon. I currently have a lifetime subscription with sirius and a second unit would only cost $5.00 a month unless something changes.

Re: XM Special after Free Trial

Well, as for many of us with just XM, I am not especially in
a hurry for that merger to happen.

First off, these great deals will probably be gone.

Next, as far as I know, nobody has figured out how to broadcast
both services to equipment that is already in the market. It's not
like we are going to be able to receive Sirius channels on our XM
receivers.

I had thought that they could just combine the bandwidth and
broadcast to both services for now, but it doesn't sound like they can.
In fact, I don't know how anybody is going to benefit from this merger
in the short run until they put out new equipment capable of receiving
both services. The next problem is getting people to pay for that new
equipment.

Re: XM Special after Free Trial

Technically there's no reason why XM cannot add Sirius channels to its program line-up and broadcast any or all channels from both sources to the installed base of XM-only receivers, and vice versa. Right?

Re: XM Special after Free Trial

Technically there IS a reason. Just two different systems. Think of Am and FM. And that will be the fix.....a new recv that is Sir-XM like a radio today is AM-FM. No hope for the installed base of older receivers.

UNLESS you mean a simulcast where Howard Stern is sent out to BOTH Sirius and XM customers at the same time...........

Yes, I'm thinking live simulcast and/or recorded audio, all inclusive. While the broadcast "technologies" of XM and Sirius are indeed different and incompatible, I'm assuming that their (pre-broadcast) raw audio feeds are interchangeable.

They cannot fully duplicate each set of programming on either service due to bandwidth limitations.
