Why Are People Building Their CTS?

My wife and I are looking at getting a CTS and I've found a lot of great information on this forum. But the one thing I can't understand is why are so many people posting that they just ordered their new CTS, or that it is on order, or they just got it after waiting 6 weeks, etc. Why are so many people not buying right off the lot? Is there some kind of cost advantage to ordering one? Or is there just a low supply in certain areas and they need to be built? Thank you.

There aren't many on lots and in many areas, the ones on the lots are not going to be discounted much (some areas will not discount at all - especially on loaded models). Placing an order might allow you more leverage in the price negotiation, as you don't NEED what the dealer has on his lot - and you can order from ANY dealer across the country, for delivery at whatever local dealership you prefer.

Also, people may be looking for specific color and package combinations that may not be available in the lot or very hard to find. And people in this price range can afford to be choosy (and pay for the expensive options)...

The dealer where I got mine has 58 2008 CTSs on the lot today. Not many have that type of selection. Many smaller dealers have zero on the lot. Location is key to this.

I searched inventory for weeks until I found this dealer.

Many dealers are ordering base, or nearly so, cars for inventory.
My personal opinion was that if I was going to spend <>$40K on a car it was going to be equipped the way I wanted. But if I could have found my car (Fully loaded ex/AWD in Radiant Bronze) I would have bought it off the lot. I HATED waiting for it!

Just try and find one with a manual transmission on a dealer's lot

I ordered to get exactly the car I wanted, not what an Inventory Manager thought someone might want. I did not want a sunroof, I think most dealers order their inventory cars with sunroof and FE1. I think most on the forum wanted FE2 or FE3. Besides that when I ordered there were no '08s in stock.
