I too, performed Shift Knob Surgery!!

I received my wood/ebony shift handle from Luke at Lindsay Cadillac yesterday (Thanks Luke). Last night I reviewed the great posts here regarding removing the knob, taking it apart, putting the knob back together with the right leather pieces from my stock all leather (cocoa) knob and then installing the knob. Whole process took maybe 1/2 hour with me taking all the time I needed and being very careful not to mess anything up. This gives me the wood/cocoa shift knob at the cheaper price of the wood/ebony knob.

One comment I must make is that the difference in color between ebony and cocoa is very little. I think that you could just put the wood/ebony shift knob on and no one would even notice.

Thanks again to those pioneers who share their knowledge with us so that we can all benefit!

Ron,

Was yours a standard CTS or upgraded luxury?

I ask because I have a *loaded* DI vehicle due to me in two weeks and
I *think* the wood/ebony shift comes with that package. Not sure. Do
you happen to know? The handle sounds interesting.

Luke, at Lindsay Cadillac, is the best. If you need a part he is the one to contact.

Yes my car has the Premium Luxury package that comes with the wood trim including the shift knob. All of the cars produced until about 10 Oct 2007 were made without the wood on the shift knob and steering wheel due to problems. That is why some of us are already upgrading. The shift knob only costs about $110 and you can install it yourself. The steering wheel is around $415 to buy and another $160 or so to install it (not sure on these figures) so I'll pass on that for now.

I just performed the ebony/wood shifter to cocoa/wood shifter surgery as well. Very easy mod thanks to the instructions/pictures on this forum. I agree the ebony/wood shift knob is almost a perfect match to the cocoa interior.
