I loved the looks and design of my CTS..heck, that's why I bought one in the first place. I finally concluded though, that life is too short to spend it arguing with uncooperative car dealers and trouble prone cars.
Anybody remember the early 70's when the Mazda RX2's were becoming popular? The rotor seals were inferior and would fail usually around 50k miles. My dad bought one used, third owner, the seals went south, it turned into a steam engine. We had it towed to the local Mazda dealer who cheerfully replaced the engine at no cost to us. No hassle, no arguing, no problem. The car was three years old at the time.
I had a 1984 Fiero that GM replaced the engine after a couple of years.
No hassle, no arguing, no problem.
Last year at this time, I was in a full blown battle with my Cadillac dealer to get problems with my brand new CTS taken care of. Not a pleasent experience.
I traded in my CTS for a new Lexus on Oct 1st of last year, and nothing, and I mean absolutley nothing has gone wrong with it. No squeeks, no dashboard or sunroof rattles, no defective scratched up paint, no rear differential whine, etc.
A very pleasent ownership experience. What a difference a year makes.
I have the highest praise for japanese quality, especially Toyota/Lexus. We have a 97 Landcrusier and the only thing that has been replaced was the battery, the brakes, and a single 10 dollar belt. Styling has always been modest and pricing is really up there. Cadillac on the other hand is more stylish and moderately priced.. Not to mention a Caddy on DUBS >> Lexus on DUBS. Good luck with the 470, they are a great SUV.
If there so great why did they lose the big one, we showed thoes ****ers perfection twice......
Not cool.. if it were not for those f***ers our CTS would probably have tail-fins and bull-horn hood emblems. Competition is a great thing, but GM should be more concerned with quality. How hard is it to have a solid rear-end, its not like the CTS puts out 500hp or something.
Holy Sh*t..I love my CTS! I've had it for a year and half. Replaced a steering sensor and that's it. I make it a point to buy American when ever I can. I wouldn't even consider looking at an imported car. I'm surprised to see guys who know longer have a Cadillac but still hang out at the Caddy Forum. Isn't there an "Import Forum"?
The japanese were not always known for quality. I remember reading about the first Toyota brought to this country. The Toyota people were going to drive it coast to coast to drum up excitement and dealer support. The thing broke down so often that they had to give up and go back to Japan.
They learned from their mistakes though, and came back with a much higher quality product. GM has never learned that. Some of the problems with the CTS , such as the rear differential whine, have been ongoing now for three model years. I have to conclude that GM certainly could fix that defect if they wanted to, they are the largest car maker in the world after all, but they just don't care enough about quality to make the effort. That is so very sad.
You make some good points here.
My point may have been lost in my translation. We were impressed that Mazda took responsibility for their deficiency and cheerfully made it right. (I hope no one was compelled to commit sepoku as a result of said deficiency!) The Japanese manufacturers in general improved and excelled in product quality and customer satisfaction. Certainly something that our own companies could improve on.
Now, in defence of our own, my 17 year old daughter is still driving my 1988 Mustang LX 5.0 5 spd with the original engine, transmission, differential (new axels at 200,000 miles) and clutch with over 300,000 miles on the clock. Yes, I've never replaced the clutch and it is still grabbing just fine! The engine is still running strong, gets 24+ mpg on the freeway, has probably been the best car I've ever owned, certainly the most cost effective.
Our 1996 Aerostar has also given us great service and I am hoping to enjoy a long and dependable future with my DeVille even though it is over 16 years old. So far so good. My vehichles may be exceptions (if they are I should consider a trip to Vegas, it should prove very profitable for me)
There are more classic American made cars from the 60's and 70's than Japanese still around. I haven't seen Overhaulin' but on American Hot Rod I don't recall seeing any imports worked on there. You see a few on Pimp My Ride but that is usually because that's all the poor kids could afford to own!
I also agree that bringing up the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are in the poorest of taste to say the least.

Typical... and immature.
i thought it was funnny, anyway this a caddy forum, if u want to suck the balls of anything japan imports take it some place else. Most of this better qualty BS (at least for cars) is no long vailid. American cars have steped up thier game, and on the other hand imports have stayed the same
