CTS-V vs. CTS w/ Luxury sport and 6-sp

All, After determining that the STS Luxury V8 is not worth the $$$ when compared to the CTS-V. I'm now considering the CTS with Luxury Sport package and the 6-sp. Seems like a good value. Anyone have this combo? Thoughts? Thanks in advance, Frank

Re: CTS-V vs. CTS w/ Luxury sport and 6-sp

wTF?? how much are you goin to spend??? and how could you go from v8 STS from CTS-V and now just reg CTS?? what are you lookin for ?? performance? luxury?? best bang for a buck??

here is the break down for you...

the new STS is pure luxury car and some performance in it..but itz too heavy plus big
CTS-V is semi luxury but badass performance vehical
CTS with 6sp is just a sport sedan and also best bang for a buck.

if i were you..i would get the STS since you already have or had (im assuming) a Z06.

Re: CTS-V vs. CTS w/ Luxury sport and 6-sp

I don't think you'll find an unhappy owner of a 3.6L 1SC (luxury-sport) with the 6 speed on this forum. They are NOT very common, and I would venture, more rare than a CTS-V. The 3.6L is a great motor, but it doesn't have anywhere near the tire burning torque of the LS6. It all depends on what you want, but for the extra $10K, you get more than just a bigger motor with the V. Judging by the mileage on CTS-V's for sale on EBay, they're not exactly driven as daily commuters.

If you're looking for more of a daily driver that kicks, the 3.6L 6-speed would be the ticket. I just wish they were being made, when I got my manual transmission CTS. You may find a new one difficult to locate right now (06's will be out in a few months). You'll likely have to order one from the factory.

Re: CTS-V vs. CTS w/ Luxury sport and 6-sp

TX_SS, Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I use to have a 2001 Z06 and I am currently waiting for a 2005 C6 vert scheduled for museum delivery in Sept. I'm considering a new sales job (more $$$) that would require traveling and a little entertaining too. I would have to cancel the C6 since you can't bring a client and his wife to dinner in a C6. My Colorado pick-up won't work either. The wife's Tahoe would work but I'm afraid that's not right image, if you know what I mean. So... being the GM guy that I am, I think Cadillac. STS projects the right image but probably not fun to drive. CTS-V definitely fun to drive but costs as much as the STS. Now the CTS, almost the same size as the STS but thousands less. With the 6-sp, Luxury Sport package and a few performance upgrades may be almost as fun to drive as the V. Maybe the best of both worlds??? Thanks, Frank

Frank,

I have the exact configuration of which you inquire...see my sig above. I've been very pleased so far. It ain't no Vette off the line, but pulls like a mofo in 3rd & 4th.

Tom

I also have the CTS you inquired about. It is a lot of fun to drive and most clients are impressed with the amount of room inside. Especially people who had opted for the Chrysler 300.

I will get the V next time, only because the kids will be done with college, or if they are not done, I will be done supporting their college expenses.

I think you will be happy with the CTS 6 lux sport 6 spd.

For the fun factor and pure adrenaline rush, the CTS-V wins hands down. But replacing expensive sticky tires every 10-15,000 miles, and gas mileage in the teens, may be dings against it being a daily driver. Especially if he puts more than the 5,000 miles, or so, a year that the average V owner seems to drive it. I know that I use my CTS for business trips and rack up 30,000 miles a year.

It all depends on what the car's intended us will be. If he want's a four door Corvette . . . get the V.

If I had a V I would use it as a DD but I only put about 12K a year on car.

i COMPLETELY agree w/ this post. it's all about what you want/need it for. i have a good friend who just traded in their '04 'vette for a CTS as it has style, class & acceptable horsepower... BUT can fit in family members on that special occasion. They wouldn't have it any other way, heck they've had it a week and have already been hit by the "mod" bug, lol
