My brother just bought a cts and wants ipod integration. I told him about the neucleus x2i, but he as a base non-bose system without xm. I read through as many threads as i could about that device, but all of them are about cars with xm. So here is my question. Can you hook this unit up to a car that doesn't have xm/nav. And if so, where is the best place to buy it? |

I understood that there is the capability of adding xm to all of the 05 and new cars, so you could get it activated at the dealer. What i really want to know is if this is the case, and if so, is the wiring still there, just without the xm tuner. if so, an ipod integration kit would work. |

I am asking for my brother though. He just recently got a 05 with base radio. I wanted to get him the ipod interface for christmas and just wanted to make sure it had the proper connections before i went and spent the money. |

So going to the dealer right now would just be foolish. However, i finally found something in all of the searching i have been doing. Looks like this might work. Quote:

The attached picture (neucleus harness) is the harness that came with the Neucleus. The two square connectors are cut off, only the connector that connects to the neucleus is used .
The attached picture (new nucleus harness) is what is left after removal of the existing xm module connectors.
The only wires used are the orange, grey, white, white/black , black and yellow. The wires are as follows.
Yellow ------power +24vdc --------splices to wire on C3(grey) Pin #7
Grey ---------left + speaker -------goes to C3 (grey connector) Pin #1
White/Black---right + speaker--------goes to C3 (grey connector) Pin #3
White---------com speaker----------goes to C3 (grey connector) Pin #4
Black----------ground---------------splices to wire on C3 (grey) Pin #8
Orange --------Data----------------splices to wire on C1 Pin #8 or #11
The rest of the wires from the Neucleus harness are not used. Tape up good (stagger lengths so ends don’t mistakenly touch ( could cause problems if the neucleus uses these for other applications
You will need either a new connector to replace the grey connector, or the proper pins to insert into the required holes. Probably better off to use a new connector and make off all the connections required, as well as the #7 and #8 that are already being used.
I opted to keep the old connector and insert required pins that were required. Insulation was stripped off the wires from pin #7 and #8 and soldered the wires from the neucleus to them, and taped very well. The Data cable was spliced the same way. The attached picture (connected is a picture of the wires soldered and the wires connected to new pins and inserted into greay connector.
Sorry I tried to upload the word how to with pictures but it was too big and would not allow me to upload.
Once these were taped up the connector is connected into the Neucleus, cable for ipod connected and ran under middle console, the neucleus was placed behind the glove box, through the radio opening and the radio replaced.
Now take the vehicle to GM and have them enable the xm software in your radio ( there is a how to in the faq pages. The ipod charges, turns on and off when the key is in the ignition and started/shut off. The steering wheel buttons navigate through the ipod. The auxiliary function is turned on when the source button is pushed while in xm ( neucleus ipod) mode.
Please do this at your own risk, if you short or ground out any wires there could be serious repercussions

You have to buy an adaptor to connect the antenna from the modulator to the one in our car as they are different. Sound is great, it was cheap and clean install. Amazon.com: Movies 2 Go FM100A FM Modulator with... Amazon.com: PH62089 Stereo Mini-Male to 2... | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
