What tires are quietest on the CTS

Remove this ad
I have the 03 CTS with 110K miles, 17" standard rims. My original tires were Goodyear and near the end they were noisy. I replaced them with Yokohama and after 30k, they also have a lot of road noise. Anyone have a sugestion on quiet tires?
Iv'e had he wheels aligned twice. The dealer recommended Michelin. Also how important is rotation every 6k? Are you guys getting feathering on the sides?

Re: What tires are quietest on the CTS

I don''t happen to have a CTS at the moment, but I've had a lot of different tires on my daily-driver Nissan 240SX, and my newest ones - General Tire Altimax HP - are the quietest by far.

Re: What tires are quietest on the CTS

Hi Sammy. I've got the same issue. On our Nissan, I recently put on Michelins. The noise drop was dramatic. That seems to be constant from other cars I've had as well. If you are getting any wear pattern you probably are underinflating your tires. Yes, more inflation increased noise, but wear patterns on the edges means underinflation. You don't need to inflate to the maximum rated. I've had a couple of people I respect tell me that two-thirds to three quarters of the rated maximum is good for general use on virtually any car tire. Maximum without a load isn't good for the tires either, as it stretches the tire cords if left constantly at that high pressure. Good hunting for a satisfactory tire!

Re: What tires are quietest on the CTS

I'm coming from the standpoint of almost no real world knowledge about this subject but logically I would think that the least noise would be created with tires that are skinny (like 225's) and have the least amount of tread (like summer performance tires). This is just my opinion.

Re: What tires are quietest on the CTS

I put Falken FK452 (235/45r17) on this summer. So far have been very pleased with them, but obviously I haven't got a long-term report for you. Great handling (inc. wet). Noise level is decent - maybe abit quiter than the stock RSAs (that I considered fine for road noise).
