no primer...just the nightshades over clean taillights...then clear

and yes the ones on the left are MUCH darker...which I don't particularly like...you can barely tell he hits the brakes during the day.

how i did my tails.
lightly sand your tails with 400-600 grit sandpaper.
then i used clear plastic primer.
the key with night shades is the lightest coats imaginable(spray from far away and just lightly mist it on) or you'll be sanding out runs and sags like crazy.
3-4 coats like that should be dark enough.
then use the clear.
once you activate the hardner in the clear it will only last 24 hrs.
i used up the whole can of clear doing my tails and 3rd brake light.
equals to about 3 to 4 coats.
don't worry to much about little linties that stuck to your clear, you'll sand and polish them out.
after you let it dry for a day/overnight.
i used first 1500 sandpaper with soap and water, lightly sand just to get the orange peel out.
then sand with 2000grit and soap water
with a polisher, or even with one of those speed balls you hook up to your drill,
polish them wih a medium cut cleaner, then finnish them off with a fine polish.
then wax and buff, they will look amazing.
mine have held out beautifully since i did them.
Nikon....uh.....see above......

Re: Nite Shade'ing my tails.. what kind of clear should i use?

I don't think plastic primer is necessary. Tons of people have used niteshades before without it and are fine.

Re: Nite Shade'ing my tails.. what kind of clear should i use?

Thanks, but I am going with Tommy's plan.

It seems the most detail oriented and the result is what I want.

Thank you for your opinion.

If you want detailed instructions, please see here:

And

Both of which, don't mention a need for plastic primer and both results speak for themselves.

If you don't use my opinion, that's fine. Someone else may read this and find it useful and a bit more cost effective.

Good Luck either way.
