04 CTS Seat and CD player issues

Remove this ad
Hey guys,

As of yesterday my car has been acting funny. It no longer remembers my seat positions. And the CD player started spazzing out on me as well. It just kept cycling through the CD's and then stopped on disc 1 and attempted to play it but nothing was happening. I finally got it just eject all the discs and now there doesn't seem to be a problem with it.

The seats are still the same though. They don't change when I put my key in the ignition or when I take it out, it just sits in on position like a standard seat.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

P.S. Just joined this forum and the amount of knowledge and users here is awesome! I look forward to gaining some good info.

Giving a quick bump because I find it hard to believe that NO ONE here has had anything like this happen to them?

On a sidenote, if I manually move my chair forward while driving, and then take my key out it will still slide back, but won't go forward when I get back in to drive.

Re: 04 CTS Seat and CD player issues

Someone throw the newb a bone.

Flame: Ok, you are a ghey retard.

Genuine response: Based on personal experience with my own '04 CTS, it is a rolling accident waiting to happen.

Greater Explanation: The dealer has previously reffered to the radio as the 'Communications Hub' of the vehicle. A multitude of issues can be attributed to a faulty head unit. I would be ignorant to suggest that the radio may have something to do with the seat memory; however is does store 'some' information relating to personalization. It's a stretch, but I would suggest that if your radio/head unit is experiencing some level of failure, then it could also possibly be affecting your seat memory.

Supporting Criteria: My radio has been replaced under warranty due to the fact that it was causing some type of 'comm' issue, and therefore now fits into my 'suspect list' of components that can make your car act like doodie.

Knowledge is power, power is dangerous, use it wisely young grasshopper.

Re: 04 CTS Seat and CD player issues

cant help you with the cd player but...
the seat i would check 2 things:
under the driver seat there is a plastic module with a wire harness attached to it.. you can see it from the back seat looking forward, this is used to control the memory seats... although mine was unplugged and they still worked.. dont know how or why they did but thats just a mystery.
second
check your personalisation settings in the menu.. you may have it set so the seat is stationary, try the other key and see what it does.. try programming the seat to 2 different positions (1 per key) and see if either key does anything.
check your 1&2 driver memory buttons on the doors and see if they are still working and also check the button that moves the seat to the position when you leave and enter the car.. this button is also programible.. so try to program it to a different position..
doing all of this shouldnt take more than 15 min max.
if all this fails i would try 2 disconnect the battery, gm told me on the phone if you leave it disconnected for 10 min it resets the system, however other people on here say disconnect the battery and hold the positive and negative witer together ... i would check with other forum members before trying this as i am not sure about it.
hope this helps.
good luck
