Power wiring questions

Remove this ad
I've decided to go with the Kenwood KOS-A200 unit to add aux input and satellite radio controllability through the factory head unit. The only remaining question I have is about the power wiring.

The Kenwood unit's power harness has 3 wires: ground, battery wire, and ignition wire. The ignition and battery wires appear to have 3A and 5A inline fuses, respectively. Ideally, I'd like to tap into the power from the cigarette lighter jack in the center console, after switching it to RAP using the instructions in the FAQ. That said, I have a few questions:

1. Especially if I switch the power to RAP, do I need to bother with the ignition wire from the Kenwood harness?

2. If I do have to hook up the ignition wire in order to work, can I just hook it up to the same wire as the battery wire?

3. Any general suggestions or advice on hard wiring this 3-wire harness into the center console?

Thanks, this board has been a big help.

Re: Power wiring questions

Wiper Motor,
How do I know if it is the motor or wiring? I have checked fuses and I have no power from the steering wheel apperatus to the motor. Changed the wiper switch, still nothing. Maybe Motor? Fuses are good. Now what?
