Exclamation URGENT - Rear Window Issue

Hi everyone,

While driving down the road in my 2003 CTS today, the drivers side rear window suddenly fell into the door and is now dysfunctional.

Can anyone point me to an online resource for disassembly of the door so that I can get this fixed tonight? I have a 2+ hour round trip commute to work tomorrow, and really don't want to be driving around with plastic covering the opening.

Thanks for the responses.

Bruce

Re: URGENT - Rear Window Issue

I recently had mine go bad. I used wood shims wedged into the door/glass to keep it up till I could get it into a shop. Worked very well.

Happened to my Passat... Its probably the "plastic" clips that hold the bottom of the piece of glass and raise and lower it. They get weak and break after several years - sucks. Take it to a shop you trust.

go with the wood shimms but i would say fix it yourself .. its not that hard to work on stuff like this usually but it will be a tight squeez
ide start with pullin the door appart and then using wood shims to hole the window in place till you can get a replacement part.. there also is a chance it just knocked off the track and verry small chance nothing is broken...most likely a plastic clip of some sort.

Re: URGENT - Rear Window Issue

It's common on 2000+ GM vehicles. It's probably 95% likely the window regulator has failed. (either by a busted plastic routing peice, or a broken cable.)

That happened to me and when I took the door panel of it was a round plastic piece that snapped and the cable got kinked from me trying to roll it up when I was driving

Re: URGENT - Rear Window Issue

I just had mine go bad. It was a broken pulley that ended up breaking the regulator. It was a piece of cake to remove. Just search for instructions on removing your door panel. If you take the cover off and see a mess of cable on the inside then you know you'll need a new regulator (but probably not a regulator motor.) I ordered a new regulator off of ebay for about $100. Loosen the screws that clamp the window in place. From there you can remove the regulator with 4 bolts. Make sure you have the window supported. Remove the motor and attach it to the new regulator. Pop it back in place. Align the window and tighten the clamps, put on the new regulator, reattach the wiring, and put your door cover back on and you're done. Took me about 45 minutes and I had no instructions. My dealer said they would fix it for $600 so I'm glad I did it myself.
