I'm happy to find this thread, since it seems to address part of my problem also. I'm getting some transmission dragging and surging at various speeds, and it seems like the engine gets louder at these times also. 2005 CTS.

Another problem I noticed last night - I had to go up a steep hill, and I wasn't sure if it was gonna make it up. I had the AC on, but it still seemed to be really struggling, especially with only 38,000 miles. The engine got very loud and it felt like it was trying to shift up and/or down to make it up the hill. Needless to say, this was disturbing.

Anyone have the hill problem before? I'm taking it in next week to get the "Service Brake Assist" problem looked at, so I was gonna ask them about this also.

So Cadillac purposely wanted to jolt their drivers around and make passengers think the car is about to fall apart...thats kind what mine feels like. Im just gona live with it and if it breaks rebuild it i guess..
