Another happy new CTS owner :)

IceDigger indirectly referred me here from another forum we are both active members at. Just got a 04 CTS 3.6. Unfortunatley a V was not in the budget and we ended up getting the 04 for right at 14K with 60K miles. It's a Black/Tan 1 owner garage kept local non-smokers car. I think we did ok on the price and I'm very happy with the car so far. Looks to be tons of great information and helpful members here. Long term I am planning on some updates on the car such as HID, chrome tips and possibly (tasteful as I dont want it to sound stupid) mufflers with a throatier sound, window tint, and maybe a new grille. Not sure what else yet but anything that's reasonably priced that might offer slight improvements in HP and/or economy.

This weekend - my first with the car at home I did do a couple of minor things. I will say this - whatever engineer came up with the process to change headlight bulbs on this car is one sick and twisted mofo who needs to suffer major pain and suffering. Until I do go for HID I decided I'll go ahead and change out the bulbs to Silverstar Ultra's for now. Much improved over the factory bulbs but good god what a freaking pain in the ass to change. Another apparent engineering blunder was the retarded Onstar antenna. Would it have been that much more diffucult and expensive to simply use a slightly different rooftop antenna with an additional connector for models with Onstar instead of the stupid looking 90's glass mount thing? So I removed that, stuck it back together, wrapped it in a few paper towels so it would not rattle or buzz and tucked it up into the headliner. I'm not terribly worried if it will have slighly poorer reception as I have no plans on activating Onstar anyhow...

I've only taken one decent photo so far so far so here she is.

Re: Another happy new CTS owner :)

Very nice CTS. I like the wheels. Regarding the Onstar Antenna, they did away with the back window antenna in '05 or '06. I have an '07 CTS and it just has the rooftop XM Satellite Antenna. I'm not sure if that's the Onstar Antenna as well, but I would imagine it is.

By the way, I really like Onstar, but it is a little costly. I got 1 free year of the Directions and Connections plan when I bought the car, but after the 1 year was up, they wanted $300 for that plan. I ended up taking the Safe and Sound plan for $200 which includes all the services except directions. One thing I really like is the hands free calling. It works great and it's very user friendly (it's completely voice activated).

Lots of luck with your new car. I'm very happy with mine.

Re: Another happy new CTS owner :)

Beautiful CTS! My Seville had the same antenna and I had to take it off because it rattled so much.

Re: Another happy new CTS owner :)

Congrats and welcome, same year, engine and color combo as mine. The options you've listed should complement the car well. Good luck.

Re: Another happy new CTS owner :)

Yep - used a long handles razor blade scraper to get it mostly off then it just pulled on off. I stuck the two halves back together inside the car, pulled the inside pillar cover, wrapped the whole antenna deal in several paper towels first so it would not rattle against anything then just stuffed it up into the headliner. Was actually really easy.

Any tried just aftermarket mufflers only? I dont really want to go to the expense of a full cat back system but would not mind a little better sound. I do not want it raspy or super loud, just to have a nice tone to it. I have Borla mufflers on my 5.3 GMC truck and the sound is sweet. Not too loud but still has a nice rumble.
