i'd personally go 18s or 19s, but since you dont care about performance, go with 20s. | Couldn't agree more! Looks silly to me, and I can't help but believe that it affects performance, handling, and safety.
Reminds me of the trend several years ago when kids were putting really wide wheels and tires on small cars, which stuck out a foot or more beyond the fenders, and when that trend wore off, they began putting absurdly skinny tires on their cars. Neither trend lasted more than a couple of years, and I predict the days of grossly over-sized wheels are numbered, too.
Why spend money for a well-engineered car and then mess it up for the sake of some short-lived style trend?

| | | Re: 20's Vs 22's 22's here. no problems. they do affect acceleration and braking a bit. but nothing major. i put my old 18" rim and tire next to 22's on the car and the difference in overall diamater is not THAT big. it's funny to me how people gripe about "messing up a well engineered car". i don't know if anyone else knows this but we drive the cheapest cadillac made. it's not like there's some cutting edge technology on them. |

But the 2008 CTS is a pretty damn good car, IMHO, so I'll stick with with the wheels that it was designed to run on. |

edit: mines an '04. pretty outdated technologically speaking.

The CTS is designed for either 17" or 18" rims, and the 2009 CTS-V comes with 19" rims. They're not engineered for tractor tires.
Anyway, it's your car -- turn it into a joke if you want. All the cool kids will be impressed, I'm sure. Until the next trend takes over, that is. |

Until the next trend takes over, that is. | sorry, but a cts is not a car for a "true driving enthusiast". i really don't care too much about acceleration on my cts. i don't know if anybody's noticed this but these are not fast cars. they don't accelerate THAT hard. sure they look sporty, but you're kidding yourself if you think the cts is some sport car and 22" rims will seriously affect what the car is meant to do: be a daily driver. designed for 17's & 18's? they're so well engineered, why do they come with 16's?
edit: i have a manual tranny. when i want to accelerate i downshift. i also use the tranny for decelerating. i truthfully find it hard to tell the difference between riding on 18's and 22's. my wife says she noticed no difference until i pointed it out, because it can only be felt under hard acceleration (in the lower rpms)/ light braking. and i only noticed because i was searching through the powerband for a different feel. from what i can remember i have yet to hear of someone here who has 22's complaining of a difference in ride quality. only those without 22's who have no evidence to back up their claims.

Why do you drive something you think so little of?
Are you even aware that a CTS recently set the lap record at Germany’s famed Nurburgring test track? The sub-8-minute lap is the fastest ever documented for a production sedan.
Perhaps you should have someone read the reviews of the 2008 CTS to you -- start with the one by Dan Neil, one of the most respected car writers around, who concluded that "Cadillac makes a better car than BMW or Mercedes or Lexus or Infiniti." Or maybe you should check out the Motor Trend 2008 Car of the Year Award.
One last thing -- the 2008 and 2009s CTS do not come with 16" wheels -- check the specs. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
