| | | Dependable HIDs What HIDs are known to be dependable and affordable? I read some threads but no one really gave str8t answers. From one source it ends up the person was hustling people for money? Some bulbs were burning out and others didn't have theres for more then a few days. I've done my LED conversion inside and out and you can Imagen how lame it looks with the stock headlights. |

| | | Re: Dependable HIDs I would go with the newer digital ballast style. You can get a really good price off of eBay. I have this one and it works well. I've read that they have auto protection circuits / better reliability. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Super...m330245710558& |

You get what you pay for, that includes Ebay. They may all be selling the same basic stuff but product reliability, warranty, and customer service is where you should invest your money IMO.

| | | Re: Dependable HIDs I think I may get the $65 set off Ebay, His feedback is better than most with over 5k items sold at 98.7%. Thats pretty good. I will let you know how they perform. I would rather lose $130 on 2 sets than $300 on 1 set. |

HID in the foglight looks awesome, without the projector. Just do it.

| | | Re: Dependable HIDs May look cool but it's not smart because it blinds everyone ELSE on the road. YES you do need projectors or reflectors designed for HID's NOT Halogen bulbs. They're completely different. There will be plenty on here who will say that HID's in the fogs work fine. Well, they do to an extent. Of course they're a lot brighter than the halogens, but that's not the point. The point is that fog lenses are NOT designed to have HID lighting in them. The beam is extremely unfocused and can actually cause accidents because of the high probability that you're going to blind an oncoming vehicle. If you're obsessed with looks and looks alone, then fine, go with HID's in the stock fog housings. However, if you're more concerned about safety AND functionality, stay with the stock halogens or retrofit a projector housing for the fog lamps. There's a reason why HID retrofits are ILLEGAL, and no, it's not because they're brighter but because people do not properly install them and cause every one else a hassle on the road because of it. Properly installed/stock HID setups do not cause problems for others on the road. I don't know why most people run around at night with their fog lights on anyways. Just use them for what they were intended for.... FOG. |

| | | Re: Dependable HIDs I understand what you are saying, but inside the housing for the foglights is a shield, and the way the foglight is designed, there is little blinding involved. Sure is bright to passerby's, but the cutoff on the housing works really well, and so does the shroud INSIDE the lamp, so it's not blinding them. A lot of people on here who have done the WW fog conversion (I've got STS-V fogs) have ripped out that shield inside, producing what I feel is too much bright light coming out of there. It's no worse than the normal fog light. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
