Custom88 has a good point, and I was going to point it out earlier. IMO projector lamps are the best setup for HID lamps. They offer a distinct cut off to the beam that will prevent you from blinding oncoming traffic. I still think you can
get by with a reflector type setup if you aim the lights correctly. When I refer to the reflector type lamp, I mean the type of head lamp assembly that has a shield covering the naked HID bulb, which serves to reflect the light off the mirrored finish of the assembly.
If you have ANY type of lamp where the naked HID bulb isn't either covered, or the light isn't projected, you will cast blinding light everywhere. I have naked bulbs in my fog lights on my truck and NEVER use them on the road. They add a TON of light to the trails when you are off roading after dark. They simply aren't fit for on road use because oncoming traffic is blinded by the unshielded light. Drivers let you know PDQ when you forget to turn them off, because every passing car flashes it's bright lights at you or gives you the finger.
