Painting Dash

Remove this ad
So I wanted to paint my dash. Went to the auto upholstery guys and they told me that I either have to take out the windshield, or completely dissemble the dash, and either way it would be illegal because I would be painting over the airbags!
This sucks.
Bellow is a crude photoshop of what I wanted it to look like. ( I have beige/tan seats)
Any ideas of how I could get this done.

Re: Painting Dash

I don't think it's a good idea. you'll never get the color to match right and a miss would make the car look off. Then there is the problem of fading and pealing from the sun and weather. I'd concentrate my efforts on the exterior of the car instead. Lots of mod ideas on this forum.

Re: Painting Dash

Try a body shop instead of an upholstery place. Upholstery shops dont paint, they cover over. You would not be painting the air bag, you would be painting the cover over the airbag, which body shops often do when repairing a vehicle that has blown its airbags. They make paints for the interior so this should be do-able.

Re: Painting Dash

I think that looks pretty slick. But like Sammy said, it would be really hard to get the color to actually match. If you try it and it doesn't look like you imagined then you are out ALOT of money to replace everything. Just not a risk I would be willing to take.

Re: Painting Dash

Maybe I'm mistaken, but wouldn't you want to use a dye on those panels, not paint? Dye would last longer and not feel tacky to the touch. (plus it wouldn't rub off as easy)

Re: Painting Dash

Some of you guys are funny. Chrome pillars are tacky, and this looks hot? Chrome pillars on a silver car do not look as bad as the interior shot you just posted. That looks like a ricers interior.

Get the dash upholstered, if you are going to do anything. Save painting for civics and sunfires with lambos and recaros. Cadillac's use leather. Or even Alcantara would be nice!

The way the pic looks it is almost Factory. Looks a hell of a lot better then miles of black plastic. But Cadillacs use leather right? The '08 CTS has the interior that this car should have come with, This idea is the next best thing. Those colors dont look to much like the Fast N Furious scene...tan and brown.

If there was no pic to show the idea off, i'd be right there with you. Paint a Cadillac dash? Sounds ghetto, however with visual evidence looks like a solid mod.

My opinion.
