Manitoba's New Gas

I was wondering why my milage in my CTS still sucks - the cold weather is now gone, so it must be the fuel.

thanks to our NDP government - in January 08, all of our gas stations have 10% ethanol on Regular and 5% ethanol on Mid-grade fuel here in Manitoba.

I looked back at some gas reciepts from the fall and we where getting much better milage (20% better than now) in the fall then we are getting now.

Looking at switching to Premium (0 ethanol added) to see if there is a difference in milage. Premium is 7% more cost, but if I can get my extra 20% milage back, then it will be worth it. It will cost me about $10 more per tank (between $.07 and $.10 /litre difference between regular and premium).

my buddy has also noticed this in his Subaru.

anyone else here in Manitoba (or other places with ethanol added) notice this?

Re: Manitoba's New Gas

I've been using Shell Premium only, I tried the 94 octane from Husky but it has ethenol. I didn't notice any huge change and it was still Feb so it was cold out so was still getting less the stellar gas mileage. I've just gone back to Shell Premium but at 1.39 a litre I'm going to be walking to work more :P

Driving around Winnipeg I'm getting about 12.5 to about 12.7 L/100km on avg (when im not driving like an idiot), its about the same as last few years.

Re: Manitoba's New Gas

i used to use husky or mohawk with the ethonol, but noticed my gas milage drop(didn't note the actual numbers) but when i switched back to premium from shell or esso i noticed i'm filling up way less often.

Re: Manitoba's New Gas

colder weather means denser air which = better performance
