LEDs in parking lights...Heat problems?

Remove this ad
So, I've got some white LEDs in the parking lights and they look killer! The LEDs come with a warning saying that using them in headlamp housings will void the warranty due to damage from heat. I know for a fact that heat does kill them. I had some used in a city light setup on a truck once. They were right by the lowbeams and it didn't take long for the heat to kill the LEDs.

I know the HIDs in my CTS burn cooler than halogens. After a 2 hour drive last night I felt the headlights and the lens was warm in front of the lowbeams, but everything under that was pretty cool, but I don't know what kind of internal temps the HIDs create.

Long story short, has anyone had any problems with their LED parking lights dying on them from any kind of heat problems?

Re: LEDs in parking lights...Heat problems?

hmmmm...

You have HIDs?

Did you replace them with standard bulbs again or what?

Maybe I'll just keep a good supply of LEDs on hand just in case.

Maybe it wasn't a heat issue? Oh well. If they're going to go out, I'll find out in time. Hopefully not, though. They look too good.

Re: LEDs in parking lights...Heat problems?

I've had LEDs in my triangle-corner lights for 17 months now and they are still working fine. Sidemarkers have been a different story. Still working on those.

What's with your sidemarkers? I put some amber LEDs in my sidemarkers in anticipation of getting some smoked clear lenses.

Re: LEDs in parking lights...Heat problems?

Eh, I have just had a few burn out on me. I think they need load resistors.

I've also been using LED turn signals for about 10 months now and they have been running great with no heat/melting problems.

The sidemarkers blink?

Makes sense. Just hadn't thought of that.
