You guys that drilled the whole in the dust cap, did you have to remove the bumper to install these HIDs? I've replaced a standard low-beam by just removing the air filter and reaching my hand in there. I was hoping I could do the same with the HID upgrade..

any problems with the lights flickering?did u buy the hid wiring harness thats sold separately? this is a quote from their site
"The battery harness is still required if your car has daytime running lights or has wiring of insufficient size (typically in Hondas and Mazdas) to power the HID kit" do i need to purchase it?thanks

Re: hid kit on 2004 cts

Get the Xentec kit off eBay.

It has a digital ballast which is smaller.

I put my whole kit inside the light housing so I did not have to drill any holes at all. I think this is the best way because the kit gets sealed off from the elements and it is totally reversible. It is also the easiest way to do it. The digital ballast fits in like a glove and wont go anywhere with that adhesive pad. You could also screw it in so that the kit is still inside the housing but the screws pass through the housing to the outside.

The digital ballast has an auto shutoff circuit for protection and a special startup circuit to help reduce the initial voltage spike seen on analog ballasts.

Technology is so slow moving in the auto industry. I'm sure all OEM ballasts will be digital in a few years.

Re: hid kit on 2004 cts

Just bought a 2003 CTS last week.

I too am thinking of getting a HID kit for the low beams.

One of the things I am a bit uncertain of (after reading HIDPLANET) is using the stock halogen projectors with a xenon bulb.

For those who have done the conversion, do the low beams have a wide, deep, and even spread like a CTS with stock HIDs, or is the output spotty and concentrated ahead of you, like the horror stories they post.

Thanks for any opinions/help offered.

-Steve

Re: hid kit on 2004 cts

I got a digital ballast on mine and I have to agree with Gauge when I start up it stikes and gets bright in secs and I have no flicker at all. I also installed mine the old fashion way and pulled off my bumper which was easy to do the install with nothing in my way.

Re: hid kit on 2004 cts

Don't worry about using your halogen projector to project HID light. I know one forum member that has one CTS with the stock HID and another CTS with a kit installed on halogen projector. He has had them side by side and there is no difference.

The cutoff is beautiful with HID and the paint on the road / signs and reflective markings on buses and trucks glows bright with the HID light. Go with 4300K or 5000K. You get this cool purple / blue cut off with clean white light below.
