Have a paint problem.....

Remove this ad
So, I made a mistake. I parked under a tree at a party I was at on Saturday. It was one of those trees that drops seed pod things during the spring, especially during rain and wind.

I had a ton of them on my car. They sat yesterday and half of today. i washed my car at lunch and found bad etching on the hood from the pod things. There was also some on the trunk lid. The trunk lid was sort of moist when I was drying it and the etching came off with some work from my drying towel. The hood was much dryer from the air drying and the etching stayed on.

So, should I try to wet the hood and scrub them off with a cotton towel or just buff em out? Also, clay bar is an option.

Thoughts?

Re: Have a paint problem.....

my 1st inclination is some spot work with the clay bar, isn't it designed to remove those types of deposits - dust, particles, tree sap - that have become embedded into the clear coat. hope you can get it all off, your car was lookin really great back in April when i saw it.

Re: Have a paint problem.....

Yeah I might give the clay bar a shot. One thing also is that I have like 10 coats of polish and shit on there so how does that factor in?

Thanks Kurt!!!

Re: Have a paint problem.....

is it more sticky like sap? I googled a couple things and the consensus seems to be that finger nail polish remover or 70% alcohol work the best for removing sticky stuff like sap, i'm not advocating this, proceed at your own risk. Then you would have to re-zaino those areas for sure.

Re: Have a paint problem.....

maybe bug and tar remover will work. i know someone who has a black truck and parks under one of those trees all the time, he even lets that stuff bake on for days in the sun. i know he doesn't do anything special to get it off(aside for an automatic car wash), so it can't be that hard

Re: Have a paint problem.....

Just get it off quick. That happened on my wifes car and she did not tell me for about a week. It stained the clear coat bad. I got it to look ok but it was still visable. The car was dark forest green.
