A lot of Vibration above 95mph

Remove this ad
I just returned from a 2000+ mile trip in my CTS. On a part of the trip I put it to the floor to pass a few trucks, above 95 mph, I had a severe vibration. The car just passed 40k miles, the tires are original Michelin's that I had balanced and rotated a few months ago. The ride is very smooth at regular highway speeds. Maybe a bad balance, or something else? Anyone experience this with their CTS?

right here man, i have been having this problem since i went with aftermarket 20's i get a crazy vibration i have balanced them and got an alighnment done but that did not really help the cars steering wheel, seats and dashboard shake like crazy. i have been told numerous things but that all costs money but then again i think is worth a try given that the dealer would charge more just to tell you what the FFUUCCKKEENN problem is.....

do you have your stocks on or are you riddin' on aftermarker rims&tires?

here maybe this will help

Re: A lot of Vibration above 95mph

Do you have the right bolt pattern, if not are you using hub centric rings. Some cheap wheels usually made in China will never balance properly.

Re: A lot of Vibration above 95mph

Sounds like you don't have the right bolt pattern on those rims. I remember my old grand am used to be 115 but I put 114.7 on there as they are more common and more choices. Using hubcentric rings I didn't have any problems, but you also got to be very careful when you tighen them....go in a star pattern and little bit at a time, as they will slowly adjust and sit correct. I am not sure if thats your problem or not but though I would drop a line, maybe might apply to your situation

Re: A lot of Vibration above 95mph

Thanks for your responses. The car is 100% factory stock. The only thing I've added is a package of sunflower seeds in the console. (keeps me awake). It's a mystery, the balance is great until I hit 95. I'll take it to the dealer to check out the front end. I hadn't thought of an alignment, but at 40k miles it might need one.

Re: A lot of Vibration above 95mph

Well there you go! The sunflower seeds are throwing the balance of the car off....

I agree that no where in the US is 95 mph legal to drive, however, if something is not right about your car...somethings not right.
I had the same problem with mine when i hit 75+ on the freeway. Dealership didnt wanna even look at the car and thought it was funny to tell me I need to slow down and drive the limit, where there is no vibration.
I told them to get bent...went down the street to a Chevy dealer, gave me a balance and alignment...
car runs almost as smooth as her paint...
Good luck my friend

Re: A lot of Vibration above 95mph

many things can be the cause.....95+ mph, what are your tire ratings? balanced? all lugs tight?, bad shocks? wind? bad road?
