| | | 2006 CTS using Oil Well i took my car into the dealer today to get some noises looked at , and there was a ticking in the motor , the dealer said it was down 1 1/2 liters of oil, they seem to think that this is normal which I dont , either it is burning it or leaking it. Does anyone else have any idea on why it would be done that much between oil changes ?
there is a rubbing noice coming from the tires, they told me it was because of the "nubs" on the goodyear tires that scrap against the rim, well they are looking into providing me with 4 new tires so that is not a bad thing I guess but I find it weird again . |

I’m baffled at your statement and perplexed that you beleave the drivel that the “allowalable” oil consumption that GM says is acceptiable. Its not, I mean really 1qt every 1000 miles “acceptiable” |

| | | Re: 2006 CTS using Oil A car that consume oil in a certain way, it could be normal (1 qt every 5000 km). A car that doesn't take a drop of oil, I never saw that happen. Rings need to be humid, wet. If there's no oil consumption at all, There's some metal wear somewhere in the engine. But 1 qt every 1000 miles, my opinion is: not acceptable.
My cts has now 4000km on the oil and oil level dropped about 100 ml on the oilstick. Maybe they didn't full it entirely at your last oil change? how many km on your car? |

| | | Re: 2006 CTS using Oil yes i see it on a daily basis, first off the dealer will tell you the average engine oil economy is 1qt in 2000 miles, this is relayed to you because its the only guideline we have from GM. realistically in a oil change interval of 6000 miles without checking/adding oil you could be down 3 qts. i have many cts, sts, srx customers using oil in this range. things we have found are... the quick lube, gas station oil change people are getting inferior synthetic causing carbon, sludging and just crappy oil. the people using top shelf oils, mobile1 valvoline etc are doing better. 2nd, we perform a series of decarb procedures on the engine (similar to the northstar repair) after doing this twice it is very rare the customer returns with an oil consumption problem (unless they go back to crappy oil. we have had extreme cases of having to replace rings, but alot of times its solved with decarb and using better oil.
remember your oil life index has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ACTUAL LEVEL AND CONDITION OF YOUR OIL i have to remind my customers of that constantly and you also start feelin the affects of low oil BEFORE your low oil level light comes on with this engine
start your own oil consumption test...scribe your dipstick and fill your oil to the scribe mark, drive 1000 miles and check your oil, add to the scribe mark and see how much you used, do this 3 times and you can get an accurate reading. like i stated earlier, your dealer might not help you if its under 1qt in 2k, personally i feel its too much and do all i can for my customers. |

| | | Re: 2006 CTS using Oil on a diffrent note, we are long past the days of "full service" gas stations, the men in the white uniforms filling up cars and checking oil is long gone, so now its more important that the customer check fluids and tire pressures to ensure safe driving or at least find someone trustworthy to do this service for them |
