First Oil Change 8800 miles... Questions?

Remove this ad
So I am ready for my first oil change, DIC says I'm at 19% oil life but I feel like the oil should be changed now that there are almost 9000 miles on the odometer! My questions is, how should I go about doing it? I'm tempted to buy the stuff and do the changes myself - but I really don't want to deal with transporting and recycling the old oil. I don't think Jiffy Lube uses Mobile 1 synthetic, and I'm not sure I trust them anyway. Should I take it to the dealership? I don't really want to pay a hundred bucks for an oil change you know? What are your thoughts... thanks!

Jiffy Lube does have Mobile 1, but you will pay about 70 dollars for the change. I will never pay a shop to do something I can do at home, so Do it yourself.

Re: First Oil Change 8800 miles... Questions?

i change my own with mobil 1 for about $36 (includes filter). takes me about 1/2 hr. tops, might take ya a little longer the 1st time you do it until you figure where everything's at. i hate paying $$$ for something i can do myself, but that's just me. i can put my used oil in a container, label it and put it out for our garbage pickup, they consider it a recyclable item.

i hate the idea of some kid at a quickie lube doing a half-a$$ed job on my car, if i was gonna pay someone else, i guess i would take it to the dealer.

Re: First Oil Change 8800 miles... Questions?

I do not understand why anyone on these Cadillac forums even thinks about the cost of an oil change and agonizing whether to go to a dealer or Jiffy Lube or doing it at home. The premium cost of the car, the insurance, fuel, all the non-essential bells and whistles that many of you add on (exhausts, sound systems, brakes, grills, eyelids, wheels, etc) overwhelms any cost issues related to the occasional oil change, regardless where you get it done. How much does it cost to go out to a bar with your pals and pop a few brews down while indulging in a meal before going to the movies to see the summer blockbuster? Or do you decide that you'll sit at home, eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, drink water and watch network TV on your rabbit ears so you don't spend any money?

some of us actually enjoy working on our cars, it's therapeutic for me and I like learning more about cars. I just installed FE4 shocks & Eibach springs on my own, probably saved $500-1000 over having someone else do it. Plus by spending $36 on an oil change instead of $120, i have more $$ in my pocket so I can go drinking, out to eat, to movies, add mods to my car or whatever. Just because I don't like paying someone else to do something I can do myself, doesn't make me a cheapskate.

BTW, I have a 46" HD TV with surround sound & DISH DVR and my latest investment is a high end BBQ grill, which is my other hobby. No rabbit ears & peanut butter sandwiches for this boy, oh, and I prefer good gin over water

Allow me to weigh in....The 'premium' cost of the car...well..most of us bought our cars, used...and truthfully, if you're good enough......you can buy the CTS for the same price a Toyota Camry goes for....

If I can save $50 doing somethin myself....as opposed to paying $90....Damn right I'm gonna do it....$50 in my pocket is better than anything...

I can get drunk with my friends off $50......

and I can go to Ruby Tuesday's and have a nice meal for $25...

So..I'm still ahead!

My insurance didn't go up...nor did my gas bill on this car......so that doesn't work either..

I'd say..take your negative comments on somewhere......the dude wanted to save some money....what the hell is wrong with that?

That's all any of us want.....to save some money.

If you aint worried about it...good for you......and you got scratch to just not worry about...great for you....then give us some..so we can go to the dealer and get our oil changes then...

Otherwise............shut up.

Your response wasn't needed like that from his question.....

Aight...I'm done....lol
