Air Conditioning set to Always On?

Remove this ad
Hello

Got my cts (03) like 6 month ago and just 3 days ago found out that my AC has been on this whole time! Unless I press the AC OFF button it just stays on by default, which is horrible, no wonder my gas mileage sucked more then I expected.

Is there a way to have it always be OFF unless I want it on? I don't have my manual at home (at parents place) so I don't know if there is anything in there regarding this, but the fact that the button on the console is called AC OFF makes me wonder is AC ON is the default always and can't be changed?

Right now I am getting around it by pressing the damn button every single time I start my car, as it does not remember my last setting for AC, but does for everything else on the heater controlq

Re: Air Conditioning set to Always On?

I have the same concern, however mine seems to remember when I restart the car and it keeps the AC off. You may want to try a manual temperature and fan speed and keep the AC Off. Then when you restart the car, it should come up as the same setting.

I don't think it helps the gas mileage that much. I get about 23.1 average with the 03 3.2. good luck

Re: Air Conditioning set to Always On?

I have mine on auto fan, but I have it set to bi-level. (vent pointing to the floor + dash vents.) My AC/OFF light is always on unless I change it to defrost. But yes, the AC is "on" by default. Remember, it's just set to AUTO A/C. It doesn't mean the AC compressor is running all the time, it just means that it will turn on automatically when needed.

Re: Air Conditioning set to Always On?

Played with it today and changed some stuff around, and now AC is set OFF by default, no idea what I did really, just kinda cycled through all of its functions. For me it seems like AC was on all the time, even when it shouldn't be, because as soon as i turn it off, you can hear my engine change the tone.

Thanks everyone

Re: Air Conditioning set to Always On?

I think the a/c setting can be set with your auto seat functions. Meaning if you have the 1 or 2 setting, before you hold it down and preset to where you want, you should have the a/c off. I'm sure the older members can correct me if I'm wrong but I think I had read this somewhere on here a while back.

Re: Air Conditioning set to Always On?

yes your memory settings controll your ac functions as well. When setting up driver 1 and driver 2, make sure the vehicle is exacly the way you want it to be when you start your car every time.
