When the car is in sport mode, yes, it changes shift points and keeps the car in gear for the longest time possible, thus getting the most out of the higher RPM range for that gear. Meaning it will basically red line before shifting.
In addition to that it provides engine braking when you release the gas pedal.
Also note that having the "S" button does not exactly mean you have a CTS with a sport package. |

| | | Re: Rookie Question i don't have tetonic shift so i always drive with sport mode and in 4th instead of drive. drive is actualy automatic overdrive, so i use that on the highways. 4th will give you more low end power through the gear range, or so says the manual.

| | | Re: Rookie Question If I'm on the highway and am going to pass, then I just hit the Sport mode button and it shifts into 4th. If you don't hit the gas it stays there for about 10 seconds and shifts back to "D" |

| | | Re: Rookie Question I have not tried mine yet (2004, 3.6, 26k miles), but at my age, I rarely go over 25 mph. Next time I drive to the end of the block, I will hit button, accel to perhaps 30 mph, hold on. I guess I should use my seat belt too. |
