Maybe instead of OnStar, you should have a chat with your wife about how a fuel pump works, and what destroys them.

I think the Onstar service should allow you to pay a small fee for 'early warning'. Even if you dont want the full service (which I have no need for), you still should be able to have OnStar warn local emergency personel in the event of a crash.

The OnStar turn-by-turn is crap, in my experience.

Re: OnStar Upgrade

Do it before your dealer learns how to read!!

Quote:
New customers who started their OnStar® subscription on or after 2/20/07, will also be required to pay a $100 activation fee for their new equipment.

- U.S. Dealers: Do not collect taxes on the $100

- Canadian Dealers: Collect all applicable taxes on the $100
That means if you don't have a current account, or if your account has lapsed you will be paying the $100.
If they say they won't charge you then you are better off.

Re: OnStar Upgrade

Yeah their website indicated that the price was only good through June 30th 2008 so I am currently working on learning about onstar (when i have free time - i now have a grill to install - thanks jimmyh) do they still monitor your car and tell you when you need service and crap? because i would probably beat the onstar operator if they kept trying to tell me to get an oil change. (i just remember this from some old commercial so i could be wrong)

Re: OnStar Upgrade

You can sign up for the email notification.
They communicate with the car and send you email reminders or let you know if you need something checked.

I haven't seen any but some folks seem to think it is a handy feature.
I don't think they call you in the car.

Re: OnStar Upgrade

Just had mine upgraded this week.
Antenna was changed but looks the same as the original one. The new system you say the complete phone number you are calling rather than one number at a time. I think it is a great system to have. I use the phone a lot. The old analog system will still work for emergency situations.

Re: OnStar Upgrade

You can dial one number at a time by using the "digit dial" command rather than just saying "dial".
If you have problems with the VR recognizing your voice patterns you can try the digit dial to see which number the computer has trouble understanding.

Non-upgraded systems aren't good for anything. The newer ones are deactivated remotely and won't dial through period.
Emergency or not. Not to mention I doubt there are many carriers wasting electricity on analog since it is done for.
I don't know much about the specifics of that though.

Re: OnStar Upgrade

Just talked to my buddy at the Chevy Dealership the other day... They will still do them for $199 and tax! I've called 6 different dealers here in NC and they are all charging the same! Also one told me if you'd never had it, they'd do it for free to get u to sing up! Sounds like what they done for me! I paid shipping and 1 year for $214 and I could have upgraded for $299 for directions and connections!
