"Radio Crises" please help

Remove this ad
Hello,
I have a 2003 cadillac cts vin # 1g6dm57nx30120738. My cd player stopped working last night making the long story short I have a friend who owns a 2003 cadillac cts vin # 1G6DM57N530143232 whos willing to give me his radio for $260.00.

pm. I got a gray dash and so does he.

My question: Would his radio will work on my car? Does it need to be reporgrammed by a dealer?

Re: "Radio Crises" please help

All radios are interchangeable, it will probably have to have the theft-lock deactivated at the dealer though to clear his vin. Faceplate is all you have to worry about.

$260 might be steep though. If you have a gray faceplate to your non-working one you could even use the exact same black faced ones and swap the faceplate. They might be easier to come by, and you would gain the xm band (although it would take more to activate it).

Depending on what features your faceplate is built for I would take a look at ebay. Here is a cd, cassette one where the current bidding is at $50

Re: "Radio Crises" please help

You'll need to have the VIN cleared at a GM dealer with a Tech2 after you do the swap. You'll see a 'theftlock activated' screen that will prevent it from working until you do. Other than that, they are completely interchangeable and plug 'n play.

If you can find one, now would be the time to upgrade to a Navigation system, if you have the scratch.

Re: "Radio Crises" please help

You can swap it, as noted you'll have theft issues but a dealer can clear it for you.

The '03 nav system was CD based and kind of sucks. Anything else will have a black faceplate and won't look right.
The U2R and U2S radios are interchangeable and for '03 the only setup is the theftlock reset.

Re: "Radio Crises" please help

$50 - $60 seems pretty normal from what people report. I think I paid $60. If they want much more then that I would check elsewhere, any GM dealer should have a tech II and would be able to do it they just might not have ever done it before though.

We usually charge somewhere around the $50 mark too.

Re: "Radio Crises" please help

I believe that UAV is a nav radio.
If it is an '03 you don't want it, that would be a CD based system and they kind of sucked.
