The lowest my Maxima ever got was 20 mpg. That was ALL stop and go. Not a mile of highway seen. In mixed driving I was typically getting 25-26. I am anxious to see what I am going to get in the CTS.

Re: Cts Mpg

The wider tires can affect mileage that much, believe it or not. The tread and compound also affect it. There's a price to pay for changing from stock to a different one. The factory and tire companies spend a lot of money on getting an optimum balance between performance, wear and fuel mileage. Then we want fat, heavier tires and rims, so pay for it.

Re: Cts Mpg

I am guessing that is why the CTS 3.6 I am buying has wider tires than my V.

Re: Cts Mpg

I got 34 mpg on my way to work today at 60 mph, but there was a 30 mph tail wind.

Normally I get about 30 mpg at 60 mph, 27 mpg at 75 mph with my 2005 3.6L. I'm not sure what I get in city driving, but I'd guess around 19 or 20. I coast to the red traffic lights and try to keep the car rolling ever so slightly. My average mpg is about 25 mpg on my 25 mile commute to work. My commute consists 15 miles (2 traffic lights) in 55 mph zone, 1 small town (1 traffic light), and bigger small town (8 traffic lights), and the south side of Ann Arbor (4 traffic lights). On average I probably hit 9 traffic lights red each way.

Toad.

Re: Cts Mpg

Did you ever get the problem resolved? I am seeing similar mileage (horrible) from my 05 3.6L auto and can't believe it is supposed to be this bad. I took it to the dealer and they scanned it and of course said it is fine. It seems like there are two groups of people here, one that gets 18-20 around town and one that gets 14. They told me all CTS's get 14mpg and I think that is just impossible for a car this size. Please help as I am about ready to take this car back to Carmax if this cannot be resolved. There is a problem here and it is not simply driving style, as I drive my 01 s-10 with 4.3L motor much harder and get 17 around town and 22 on the highway.

Re: Cts Mpg

I think some here are confusing instantaneous mpg vs. a tank average.

Yeah at time my readout on the highway reads 70 mpg, but that is at that instant.

I am about to take a trip from Houston to Dallas, non-stop and I will probably cruise at 70, but I will get you details as soon as I find something out.

With city driving in my 3.2, I know, I know we are discussing a 3.6, but I thought I might as well throw in my inferior older engine for comparison sakes, I probably get 18 or so.

Most of my driving is Highway @ 70 mph and with the very little city driving I average about 22 mpg.

45,00 miles on the odo.

And on the acceleration vs cruise speed, come ON!

It takes ALOT more fuel to get something moving to a certain speed than it does to keep it at a given speed.

I am definitely thinking about getting a 3.6 in the future, so I am very intereseted in your findings/results.

Thanks!

Re: Cts Mpg

Use your instantaneous readout. It helps. When I ignored it and drove with the flow, I was getting 21. When I started paying attention to the fuel economy, I started getting around 25. Using the cruise as much as possible, I was getting almost 27.

Interestingly, I have started using premium, and I am getting 29 now. I figure premium is saving me about $4 a tank.

Re: Cts Mpg

I don't think this has been said but intown at stop-lights you get 0 mpg. I get 29 mpg on tips going 70 and for some reason 27 to 28 at 55. Also in the mountains it droped some even though I was at speed.
