sub/amp problem

Remove this ad
So i had an audio shop wire up my amp and sub and they used a rockford fosgate LOC. The problem after i got home the sub and amp works but however if I change sources from like radio to xm or cd its like the sub keeps getting a weird signal and plays like this really deep loud constant bass note and it wont stop. It will blow the sub. The only way i can stop it is to cut the power off but kill the ignition. Could it be the way they wired up the LOC?

Re: sub/amp problem

Yes it could be...sounds like that's exactly what it is. They crossed a wire somewhere or something..

Take it back to em before it does blow your sub...and they need to fix it....for free obviously......

Re: sub/amp problem

Theres a few things that can cause this, can be a bad ground, bad loc, or a faulty amp. Its kinda hard to "cross" a wire during an amp install.
I would try to unplug the rc's from the amp and see if the sound permits, if so it could be the amp. If the sound stops i would look at the rc's, see where teree running, if they used cheap rc's and they are anywhere near your fuel pump or anything like that it can pick up the frequancy and transmit it to your sub. I really doubt its gonna blow your sub by the way.

Re: sub/amp problem

Yea thats bad wiring. I had that happen to me when I installed a system in my first car for the first time. Ask them if a 16 year old hooked up your system.

I wouldnt recomend using a ground loop isolator, it reduces alot of the clarity.

I wouldn't say its bad wiring per say, it can be a number of things.
Lots of things contribute to noise. Very rarely its wiring unless its hacked together, usually amp or rc's are the biggest contributers to noise.

I think it will blow the sub. When it happens its just a constant deep bass note that like goes to 50 times what the volume is set at. I know its not the amp b/c I switched amps and subs and it still persists. ill let them figure it out. Its their products and install so Its their problem.
