The DIC ....

Are the DIC's in the CTS the 'bible' by how you go about maintenance?

As in...i'm near 7500 miles for an oil change..but my DIC says I have 55% engine oil life left..

Should I wait til it's near 10% or something? or change it anyway? I suppose this may be up to the person individually...but is the DIC what you should always go by????

Re: The DIC ....

7,500 miles is getting up there. I personally wouldn't want to go over 8,000 miles. Have you checked your oil level lately? If not it'd be a good idea. When you do that also check the condition of the oil. Is it pretty dark? I usually go by my DIC for when I change my oil, but that mileage seems excessive to me. You must do a LOT of prolonged highway driving?

Re: The DIC ....

Your dealer will tell you to go by the DIC. The computer calculates your driving style and other factors to determine optimum oil life, plus you are using synthetic oil which has a longer life expectancy.

Re: The DIC ....

Yea but it's synthetic oil....when i bought it..dude told me...it can go 7500 miles easy....but it's okay if you even go close to 10k.

Now I wouldnt do THAT...but...

Was just wondering if it's the bible...

But to answer ...no i dont do a LOT of prolonged highway driving...drive 35 miles to work...and back home......that's about it...

Re: The DIC ....

My opinion is to go with the DIC. It has to be accurate.. engineer's worked very hard for that! Mine says 37% and I did almost 7000 miles so I'd go with the DIC.

Like Custom88 says, check your oil level at that mileage, its very important.. also, if your oil is almost black, maybe flush it (my opinion). Right now, mine's dark brown turning black so I know in about 1000 miles, I'll change it!

But you know, its up to you. Better changing it more often than not enough

Re: The DIC ....

I had the opposite problem, changed my oil (3.2 with synthetic) in Nov. and by Feb. and 5000 miles it was saying I needed a change. I attribute it to all the slow, granny drivin i've been doing with this crappy winter. My oil still looks good so I'm waiting a couple more months with the synthetic.

Can someone confirm, I thought I read on here that the oil change parameters used on the DIC for the 3.2 are based on conventional oil & not synthetic, where it is recommended that the 3.6 run synth? That would maybe explain why my oil life went to 0% so fast, it's not based on running a synth?

Re: The DIC ....

An oil change is cheap insurance. Why squeeze more than 3,000 out of a $30 oil change when it could mean spending $5000 to replace the engine?
