| | | my CTS top speed story, whats yours? Last weekend, (around the time of the races posted in the kills forum), I picked up my friend and we went out for his first ride in the CTS. He was wondering how fast it was, and just to freak him out, I pushed the metric button (this kid is not the brightest in the world), and hit 160kph. He was really excited, until I told him what happened. A little later, while cruising on the highway, it was strangely clear of traffic. Once again my friend asked how fast it would go, so I said, lets find out. Now on my caddy, if it is shifted into the lower gears, it shifts at 7000rpm, versus the normal 6500. So I slow down, and put it in second, taker her up to 7k, shift to third, 6800, shift, (the first three gears on my car seem really fast, up to a hundred, then it hits fourth, and seems kind of slow), hit fourth and like 5000rpm, and proceed to take her up to an indicated 145 mph. Now I thought that the limit was at 143, but in the recent road and track article it said 149? Anyways it was still climbing, and it took about 25-30 seconds to get up there, when I decided to slow down. In that entire time I past one car, four lanes away. It was fun, but I'll never do it again for a while, if ever in this car. I just wanted to see what she would would do, and I got real close to seeing, the risks at the speed are just too great. I love the car so far, and the way the engine sounds and feels. I had a video of the car doing a couple of longs smoky burns/slides/doughnuts in a parking lot, but lost them after transferring them onto my computer. Have to do it again. Anyways, anyone else get up that fast, and how did you feel about it? |

| | | Re: my CTS top speed story, whats yours? I was tagged going 140mph (have the ticket to prove it). Was a wide open stretch of road surrounded by field. It was nearing the end of the day and I just wanted to get home (returning from a business trip).
Well, I guess they have problems with speeders on that road, so they were clocking off a side road and picking people up with another car further down. The officer cuffed me and put me in the car (probably checking to see if the CTS was stolen), but wrote the ticket up for 85 in a 55 (which didn't help me a whole lot, but probably saved him some paperwork). My license was suspended because of it and to date it has cost me about $2500 in fines and legal fees.
Moral of the story? At 140mph, no one can read your plate, so just keep going.
That's a joke, btw... If you like to travel at high speeds, remember that the cost of such may be great (I try to think of it as cost of admission ).

| | | Re: my CTS top speed story, whats yours? If you really want to go 140mph, drive to Montana. There is really no speed limit way out in the country. Send us the pictures though. |
