Audio Questions

Remove this ad
Hello I have been lerking around this board for a couple weeks since I bought my 05 cts with a non bose- non xm radio. I have a few questions and have done many searches on here trying to get a clear answer to my questions but I am still not clear. Since my car does not have a xm tunner which ipod adaptor can I use without splicing into the cars wiring?I am talking direct conection not a fm mod.If I use a aftermarket head unit is there a wiring harness made that I will be able to keep the cars computer display and onstar working?I have found dash kits that keep the cars computer display and a half din head unit below it.If I do decide to keep the stock radio is there a way to hook sirius to it using the sir GM ?I have never had a car that is so difficult to change the audio system. My car is certified so I do not want to void the warranty. Thanks alot for any help. Dave

Re: Audio Questions

Actually most cars nowadays, when talking about luxury, are very difficult to change out....lets remember this isnt a honda, also more and more cars are using computers for everthing in them.

That being said

Ok....for what you want to do, if your getting an aftermarket head unit, look up Darkwingfrog, MBai2, and a couple others....what they did was take the EXISTING radio molding, cut out the headunit, move a couple circuit boards for the DIC(display your talking about) then in the space that your headunit was in, slide any aftermarket into the locations....POOF...now you have kept the DIC, as well as adding aftermarket...Now depending on what aftermarket headunit you get, it will Have Ipod capabilities built in or you will have to add an adapter......

Dont forget that when you do this, you might as well add aftermarket speakers for the best possible sound

As you can see, its not a difficult project, but it will require some skill and patience.....or if you pay enough, your local guy can do it

Re: Audio Questions

Thanks for the reply. I am looking at the alpine IDA-X001 There is a dash kit at circuit city that keeps the dic but I am not sure what it takes to seperate the dic from the rest of the factory head unit and they also sell a wiring harness that is plug and play that is suppost to keep the onstar, dic, and chimes working. here is a link to the alpine. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-eNb9tnq...x?i=500IDAX001
