Re: offset? help

my rims have a +45mm offset on my 20x8.5 rims. with 245/35/20's. and theres no rub turning or hitting bumps. they look perfect too. not too far in the car but not poking out like a matchbox car.

sorry it took me so long to reply sivic. i dont have enough posts to PM you. but ive been gone lately. hope this helped.

the lower the offset the more the wheel will stick out. the higher the offset the wheels will be in more(dont know how to describe it)

Re: offset? help

The offset has to do the width of the tire you want to run (and not the rim diameter) without rubbing. The stock CTS-V runs 245 tires on an 8.5" wheel with 42mm offset. I run the same size tire with 40mm offset and it fits perfectly (2mm difference is <80 thousandths of an inch"). I'm guessing that +/- 5mm is gonna be your limit (35 to 45mm) but you'll be very close to rubbing something at those limits. Where you'll see if you go to low (<40mm) on the offset is at the center of the fender on the rears when you load your buddies in the back of the car, and on the front bumper where it sits right in front of your front tire. Turn your front tire slightly and see where it will hit.

If you go to high on the offset (>45mm) you'll rub the front upper A-arm pinch bolt. Take your hand and put it on top of your front tire and move it towards the inside sidewall. You won't fit your finger in between the pinch bolt and the tire even with the stock tires. This means that all of the added width needs to go on the outside (20mm for going from a 225 to a 245). The offset needs to move by half that amount (it's measured from the center of the rim). Stock offset is 51mm, so moving the offset out 10mm gives you 41mm.

Also, the bigger the diameter of the tire, the more chances you have to rub. Our chassis are made to fit a 26.7" diameter tire (see the stock V). Any larger and you're asking for trouble or some minor bending of sheet metal.
