Because Cadillac has destroyed those once legendary names in the last 20 years. They're trying to rebuild and transform into a performance luxury company(which, if you look back to the very beginning, is what they originally were).

Exactly. And it's not that they are trying to eliminate visions of all past autos, but mainly the one we are speaking of here is the Catera. Cadillac simply did not want to continue the catera name plate - that's another reason why they immediately replaced the 3.2l OPAL engine as well.

Re: CTS Acronym

Prob not a popularly held opinion but I like the letter designation of the new models. I feel it is a great way to change the image and update the model lines.

Yes, the Seville, Deville etc were great cars, but not particularly sporty. It would seem from my laymans observations Cadillac is trying to move into a more sporty, sleek, lux image. Unfortuantely they felt it was necessary to drop the old designations. I agree with them but what do I know. I'm no marketing expert, just a happy CTS owner!

Re: CTS Acronym

why would an sts and dts be called seville sts or deville dts, dts stand for deville touring sedan, so it would not be deville deville touring sedan. or seville seville touring sedan. They are gettin rid of teh traidtional names but if u look close enough the new names are tied in to the old ones. NO matter how much they say the new sts is not a seville, to me its always gonna be a seville, thats the car its replacing. callin it STS dosnt make it any diff to me,. Its just liek how back in the day the Mercedes 500 SEL is now the S 500. the 500 SEL was the predacessor to the S 500 even thought the name style changed.

I don't believe it is designed to be read that way. I would guess you read it like:

"The Deville line, the DTS model..." or "the Escalade line, the ESV model..." or "the Seville line, the STS model..."

Re: CTS Acronym

From GM Media

"As the first of Cadillac's S-series of models, SRX foreshadows and shares automotive DNA with future vehicles like the all-new 2005 STS sedan."

this previous post from miscreant seems to be accurate if you follow the logic GM is using:

XLR = X-series Luxury Roadster
CTS = C-series Touring Sedan
SRX = S-series Reconfigurable Crossover
Deville DHS = Deville High-Luxury Sedan
Deville DTS = Deville Touring Sedan
STS = S-series Touring Sedan
DTS (2006) = D-series Touring Sedan
Escalade SUV = Escalade Sport Utility Vehicle
Escalade ESV = Escalade Stretch Vehicle
Escalade EXT = Escalade Crossover Truck
