It's probably "Niteshades". It's a spray tint made by "VHT" I didn't black mine out, just did a slight tint. Here's some before & after pics.

If I remember correctly, I did 2 light coats & 2 medium coats of the Niteshades, & then about 5 coats of Clear Coat. The Niteshades has a matte finish, so you need to clear them if you want them to have a glossy finish. The pics in that thread were before I hit them with rubbing compound, so they have more of a shine to them now. The stuff is easy to use, but be sure you
SHAKE THE CAN WELL & OFTEN! Just remove the lights from the car & wash the lenses with some dish soap & tape off everything else. The first 2 coats should be lite to prevent running. Then the following can be medium. Don't put the coats on too thick though because it
will run. Wait about 20 minutes between coats. Then, if you want to clear coat them, wait about 45 minutes after the last coat of Niteshades before you apply the first coat of clear. Again, the first couple should be on the lite side, but then you can follow up with several heavier coats, again waiting about 20 minutes between coats. Wait about 6 to 8 hours before you re-install them. Then a few days later you can buff them with some rubbing compound to get rid of any orange peel. If you have a Pep Boys near you, they can special order the Niteshades for about $8 a can. The part number is sp-999. If not, here's VHT's site & you can find a dealer near you.

Also, here's the Nite-shades part of their site.

I've also heard of people getting the same results with less chances of runs using stuff found at hobby shops. It's made by "Testor" & is used for tinting plastic on model cars & planes. I've never used it, so I can't give any advise on that though.
P.S.-I just read my old post & I only waited about 10 minutes between coats. It just needs to set up a little, but not dry, before your next coat. Still wait 40-45 minutes before you clear them though.
AND if you do clear them make sure you use
Arcylic Enamel NOT Lacquer. If you want pics, I took a lot of step by step photos of the light removal. The whole thing was very simple & anyone could do it. You just have to have patience & do lite coats & give it time to set up between coats.
P.S.S.-If you do get runs, you might be able to remove them right away with paint thinner (which will probably give you an un even finish & require wet sanding). But if you can't get them out with the thinner, or you get an uneven finish, let them dry a couple of hours & then
lightly wet sand them with 1500 to 2000 grit sand paper to remove the runs. Then wash them with dish soap & spray them again. If you sand too hard you'll scratch the lense, but this can also be fixed by sanding with an even finer grit of sand paper & following that with some rubbing compound. Then wash & start over.
