Help! CTS problem

Remove this ad
I have a 2004 3.6 CTS (59,000 miles) . For the past 8 months the car will shake between 40-60 mph. It will do this with both my winter and summer rim and tire combos.

I took it to Cadillac and they didn't know what it was and later called to say it may be the #6 fuel injector because another customer had the same problem.

Two weeks ago the check engine light came on. The car was due for an oil change so my wife took it in. The mechanic said it was down 5 quarts of oil!!

The mechanics code reader wasn't working and he suggested taking it to Autozone for a reading. We did this and a code was showing for the cam position sensor.

I bought the snsor and need help finding where it goes on the engine. Could this be causing my problems?? Help!!

Thanks

Re: Help! CTS problem

The warranty was up at 50,000 and I'm on my own. The rear diff. seal went on it at about 53,000. The dealer wanter 800.00 to fix it and the local mechanic did it for 150.00. I also wasn't impressed the dealer charges $100.00 for an estimate and couldn't tell me for sure what's wrong with my car.

I'm

I'm hoping someone with a shop manual can tell me where this cam sensor goes. If that doesn't fix the problem I'll try another dealer.

Thanks

The Friggin' 3.6VVT has many engine sensors. I may have found it in the manual. Give me a FAX Number to send the data & illustrations.

Bob

Steve,
FAX just sent(9:30am). Crushing a 4" manual into the copy machine is tough. Some info gets clipped. Let me know if you receive it and if you need more. (5 pages)

Bob

Re: Help! CTS problem

Thanks Bob!! That helps a lot, just what I needed. Unfortunately I learned from the fax there are two sensors, an intake and exhaust. I'm not sure which is the bad sensor. I'm thinking I may need to replace both unless I can figure a way to test them.

Doesn't look like an easy job either. I have no idea how much those sensors are. Even then, what if the sensors are not bad? Maybe another diagnostic test is in order?
