Oil Leak?!

Remove this ad
I had my oil changed about a week ago and today the smell of burning oil entered the cabin through the vents. I got out and opened the hood and there was light gray smoke coming from around the left catatlytic converter area. Ive had white smoke before but that has been right after an oil change with some spilled oil, not 1 week after. When I look down to the very bottom components of the engine area undereath the oil resevoir, it looks like its covered in oil, its not dry, thats for sure. The oil level looks fine, but I did put a white paper underneath the car slightly to the left side of the car and after 4 hours, I had 4 pretty good size oil drops. So it definitely is leaking...hope its nothing major. I'm taking it back to the dealer tomorrow who did the oil change.

Re: Oil Leak?!

It isn't cheap, I had mine done under warranty. If you guys live in areas where it freezed often you need to get the TSB for the PCV done.

Re: Oil Leak?!

I just had mine in the shop for the same problem. It was $500 to replace the valve cover and the power steering reservoir. It was a local mechanic, the caddy dealership here in town would have been almost double.

Hey Mike,
Nice avatar!

Do you know if that TSB applies to 06s? Been a little cold around here lately...

Re: Oil Leak?!

Only for the 3.0 litre cars, Brad. The LS6/LS2 don't have that problem.

Took me a couple of seconds to make that Avatar.

Thanks I was thinking Opel again as they had a similar problem. DOH!

My 3.2 did it. Had to have both valve cover gaskets replaced. I did the TSB myself at
home later.
