Essentially, you add a line to your Verizon wireless account for $10 per month, receive a phone number, share minutes with your regular Verizon plan, and use your phone through OnStar.
If you are a Verizon customer, it is much more economical then purchasing talk minutes through OnStar.
It's my favorite feature of the car! |

This is what I was told by the Verizon people in AZ. I'd be curious to know if this is accurate, otherwise yeah it's a great feature. |

For instance a plan that just involves minutes for your car phone. I have cingular and don't intend of switching any time soon |

I've had absolutely no problems, but my car phone area code is the same as my regular number. |

Oh well, maybe if I ask someone else they will have a different answer, kind of like talking to the Government. |

It's my favorite feature of the car! | It is a nice feature but is problematic when trying to access a voicemail system. You can't use numbers so I can't check my voicemail. Also, it sounds great in the car but on the other end not so good. A couple of my clients have complained about the static they here when I'm on the speakerphone. All in all, for 10 bucks a month it's great. I would rather have a bluetooth system like the ones currently in the Japanese cars. Maybe someday GM will catch up on the electronics. |

the problem isnt exactly the area itself.. but more so the billing system the area you are in uses... we are in the process of switching o one billing system but as you can imagine that takes time...
so there is the reason you need two seperate accounts...
at least for now |

You need to contact onstar and ask them to check your vehicle for digital or analong hardware.
You prob have digital if your car is 06 and up however.
If you don't have the right hardware you need to have it upgraded and pay for 1 year of onstar service upfront. |
