o6' cts leaking rear diff

I've got a 06' cts with 4k on the drive train & it has been leaking from some where near the yoke oil seal. looked up above the diff & didn't see any leaks but was wet from wherever the leak is. The car was rear ended but only did rear facia cover damage & bumper absorber damage. I thought i would ask around with this post becuase i have seen you guys talking about these rear diffs leaking.

There have been quite a few rear diff pinion seal leaks.

There are also a lot of CTS and CTS-V's that leak oil from the vent on the top of the diff that are misdiagnosed as pinion seals.

Clean it off and trace the leak.

thanks for the info, i already cleaned the area & re-checked after & same problem diff oil dripping off the corsa new exhuast system. I just wanted to find out some info before i bring the car to a dealer for warranty.

I have a '06 and had the same problem after 1000 miles. Bring it back to the dealer and they will replace the gasket/seal. It is a common problem and will be covered under the warranty. I now have 9000 miles and it has been fine.

I got a 06 my diff leaked like 5k out, dealer replaced the seal, I'mm 11k out next week I'm taking her in cus the read like clunks or thuds at low speeds around turns.

My '06 Sport also had the leaky rear end. Dealer replaced the seal at about 4500 miles. All is well now. Car has 5600 miles now.

The two most common leaks are the pinion seal and the vent.

The pinion seal is a simple replacement.

GM has released a PI on the vent problem. Ask your dealer to check for a PI on the vent leak concern. It is easy to distinguish between the two types of leaks on a visual inspection.
The vent fix relocates the vent to a higher location.

My 06 leaked at 5K and seal was replaced under warantee. Have 15K now with no problems
