how did i get Check engine light??

I dont even know where to start... but this is how it went down
tipical saturday night, me and my boys decided to crash at one of the local bars. So while getting there we got to race each other at every second light but nothing major so finally we got to a major street and its my CTS, Chrysler Sebring and one of those BENZ SUVs. By all means we both school the benz and i end up beeting the chrysler so im like on top of the world until i see the flashes at the back... guess what he pulls over my friends chrysler but eventually had to let him go cuz of some urgent call, but this is just half the story. After a small drinking session every body gets to go home so im back on the highway turned on the cruise control driving normaly and i get this #$%# check engine light, im like what the and pull over, restart the car in a minute or so still on so i drove the car home still and dont know what to do??
I read the topic on how to read them engine codes but its just bunch of numbers what do i do with them??? and also You guys think this has something to do with my previous racing??
anyways i really need some help on this one

Go to AutoZone and they'll read out the codes for free. Take the codes here to get a definition. http://www.obdii.com/codes.asp As long as the CEL isn't flashing it's not too serious.

i guess i have to enter the codes that are marked with * "the star"
if yes im getting the following: - Lost Communications with Engine Control System, Class 2 Bus Shorted, Loss Of CCP Communications,Loss Of EBCM/EBTCM Communications, Brake Switch "A"/"B" Correlation, Rough Road Sensor A Signal Circuit, Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temp Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature)
most of the codes only match my VIN half way so i dont even know if they are right but from the following how bad is all that?

Thats good that the check engine light went on...... When you were tellig the story it seemed like you were gonna get a ticket for racing or get pulled over after drinking at the bar..... Hope it all works out for you

I've had this experience before. Unfortunately there was no "urgent call" to save my a$$. Cost me $1000 in lawyers fees and fines plus 40hrs of community service and 6 months probation. Street racings bad, mkay?

We were pretty much dead even when the cop lit us up. The sad thing is it was probably about the poorest excuse for a street race I've ever seen. I was 18 and was driving my dad's 96 Ford Exploder. My friend was 17 and driving his mom's 92 Volvo. I'd gotten a speeding ticket about a week earlier so I knew I was already on my parents sh*t list. As I watched the needle creep past 80mph I decided that what I was doing was a bad idea and started to slow down. I looked in the rear-view mirror and saw a car right behind me and had enough time to think, "hey what the...?" before the cop lit me up. We both pulled over and both got tickets for "speed contest". This occured about 3 days before the first "Fast and the Furious" movie came out so everybody was up in arms about how that movie was going to cause a bunch of kids to go out and street race. We were the first to go through the courts after the movie so the prosecutor decided he'd try to make an example out of us. My lawyer said he was disgusted with the whole situation because he said he's seen people busted for drunk driving get off easier than we did.

Actually, thanks to Indiana's diversionary program I was able to keep this off my license so my insurance company never found out. If they knew about even half the times I've gotten tickets over the years I'd probably be paying $5000/month or something. I havent been able to hide all of my little run-ins with the law but as far as I know only 1 or 2 might have gone on my license and my insurance has never been upped due to tickets.

If you have an early '03, you can hold down F1 and F6 to show the menu of error codes.

Hold "BACK" down to get out of the menu.

You can reset the codes from there too. I've been getting the P0128 code for a while now, I gotta get around to changing that thermostat

With the fresh snowfall the other day, I finally got the chance to do some donuts in the CTS, it's much more fun with more power & weight than doing it in the Benz (I live in a court)
