Smile CTS FINALLY UP ON 22's!! (Pics)

Remove this ad
Well after about 3 weeks of waiting they arrived this Friday. Saturday morning the journey began and 6 hours of driving, waiting, and sweating the 22’s are finally on.

So from my previous post I had a bunch of people pm and ask me to let me know how it went so here goes.

I will start by saying that it was a beeatch to get the tires on these wheels with a side wall of about 1 and ½ inches there is very little clearance for anything; I had to go to 3 different places to find someone that had the right machine and was actually willing to do the install (They said that dealing with big wheels and 30 series rubber that things can go wrong). It took 3 guys pulling, pushing, and prying for about 2 hours to get them mounted and balanced.

Then came the moment of truth, would they fit?? Well first I should say that before the install I took recommendations from people on the forum to have my fenders rolled, this is a MUST for people installing 22’s so before you go to the install shop get this done!!

First we put the wheel on the driver side front and while straight looked around the fender and there so nothing touching, but the car was still in the air so we dropped it down and still all clear. I then started turning the wheel and I heard of bit of rubbing, it was coming from the corner of the tire hitting the push pins that hold the inner fender to the front bumper (the bottom of the 3). I took it out and it was still just touching it when turning so I shaved a bit of the plastic and its all clear. I then cranked it over all the way from the left to the right and it didn’t touch a thing. So then went the rear wheel, well it went on just perfect with no rubbing, so far so good. So after getting all the wheels on I backed it out and it was time for the road test.

Now from what everyone was saying I was expecting a huge difference in ride quality. It was not nearly as bad as I thought, the drive home was about 45 min so I had a chance to see how everything handled and worked. It did rub once when going home when I came up to a pretty steep hill at about 60mph the rear sounded like it hit but with the fenders rolled there was no damage to anything. I then put 4 people in my car and went down the road and everything was fine no rubbing so all in all everything went pretty good. I love the wheels too bad I have to take them off in about a month when it starts to snow.

Recommendations for others:

My wheels are 22x8.5 with a 40mm offset with Falken 245x30x22 tires.
I am thinking with at 7.5 or 8 inch wheel and a tire of 225x30x22 or 235x30x22 there would be no modding need at all.

So that all said here are a few pics of the car
