I recently purchased a '05 CTS with <50K. It's a 6-speed and fun to drive. Recently, it seems when accelerating, it seems to slip or backfire. More noticeable when cooler weather or engine is cold. Any ideas? dealer said may need fuel system cleaning, or would fuel injector/additives work?*
I'm curious if there are any codes. Typically misfire code should throw eg. 301-305 I think. transmission slip backfire are two complete different things shouldn't be mistaking the two. transmission slips the rpm stay up or increases as the car slows down this is without any obvious shift. backfire is well a back fire. If you are in fact backfiring usually it's because you are running rich, or lean or dumping fuel into the muffler. Either way this is bad and will shorten the life of your catalitic converter.
I suggest a basic tune up, new plugs, clean manifold, remove and inspect innjectors, If your throwing any codes report back.
