If you don't have the Vss hooked up, do it now! See the instruct at the FAQ site. If you feel like you're in China - send the headunit back to GM. Tell them that you want the NA version. Good luck! |

Its easy to splice into the wire, you can go to Ace Hardware and get a wire connector that will make the splice for you by asserting pressure and it will make the connection for you. Its a little plastic splice probably $.30..... All you need is the pin from one of the wires, I think Oddyseus might have some available, I believe it was he who was making a bunch to give to supporting members and could help you out. Send him a pm. Dont worry your problems will all be over soon, its a very quick and easy fix, you just have to be carefull when you pull out the instrument cluster so you dont break it....BE PATIENT.......Let us know how it goes!!! The critical wire (and the most difficult to install) is the VSS wire. This requires pulling the Instrument panel, locating a single wire in the bundle, and tapping into it with a crimp-on wire tap. You can make your own from instructions at CadillacFAQ, but I agree, finding a reverse VW harness is not as easy as it sounds. If all you want is a single terminal from one, email or PM me, I'll drop one in the mail tomorrow. You'll need to solder about 2' of wire onto it and get a terminal splice.
The 'Phase 2' is totally optional, but brings the Nav to 'factory' capability by installing the harnessing to get the voice commands and audible directions to work. The factory Bose amp is required for this. If you had a six disk changer, you have Bose. If you had the single CD DIC unit, you have the base system and the phase 2 won't work.
There are two steps to obtaining ALL (Phase 1 and Phase 2) of this harness for free. The first is to become a supporting member ($25 for 6 months, I think), or donate $25 to Reed's site at CadillacFAQ.com. This kit includes professionally crimped terminals on high quality wire, with the factory VCIM connector for the On-Star harness. The VSS wire is not spliced from a reverse VW harness, but rather a new terminal on 30" of brown wire with a wire tap. You'll still have to locate five terminal pins from your dealers terminal repair kit, per the instructions at the FAQ, since I've long since tapped out my dealer.
I'm only doing this because when I figured out all of the harnessing and part numbers, I discovered that minimum buys applied. I had to buy enough for 20 sets of harnesses, even though I only needed to build one. So I have parts for a few more left over that I gladly will fabricate and send to members who support this and Reeds great sites. |
