If I get a CTS, I'll probably go for the current generation, as I don't think I can hold out the 12-15 months. Nonetheless, the possibility of a slightly smaller CTS intrigues me.
I'm curious... are y'all expecting a bigger or smaller car? I saw a thread on Gminsidenews.com in which someone mentioned Mark LaNeve saying at some auto show that the next CTS would be 3 inches shorter. Others said that they were expecting a longer car. Any consensus on this issue?
I would say about the same, it can't get much smaller on the Sigma platform and there is no need to grow in size since it would get even closer to the STS.
I've seen a couple references to the new CTS being larger. None that have said smaller. For what I want from the car, I think the current size is just the right balance of size and performance. I think the success of the Pratt & Miller CTS-V race team is a strong endorsement for the current size. The current car is larger than it's foreign competition, yet performs better. If GM shrinks the car, owners will lose passenger and cargo space. If GM bloats the car, potential buyers will shy away from it, dismissing GM for always making cars bigger.
IMO smaller would only be if a 2-door was introduced. Make it larger and you're competing with yourself and the STS.. I think it will stay the same size overall. They could play with the wheelbase and keep the overall length the same.
5 Series size for 3 series price, that was the reviews when it first came out. Unless the STS gets substantially larger, or unless sigma II (which the next CTS will be built on) can shrink, I don't expect much change.
With the ever expanding waistline of North America I am sure the car might be slightly larger. If it is smaller it will have a smaller engine bay and a smaller trunk then.
Anyone hear GM officially stating they screwed up on the CTS interior?
Let me add...GM would be foolish to mess with things in the CTS other than the stuff they need to update/fix. The CTS was right on the mark, all they need to do is update the look and fix the interior and other small things, not go and make it larger.
