    where did my oil go?

I got an oil change a couple months ago for my 2006 cts, 3.6l. Well assuming Walmart put the correct amount of oil in my car, where could my oil have gone in two months?

The other day I hear chattering and knocking I check the oil and it's extremely low. It took 5 quarts of oil. I Park on a clean slab of concrete, there are no oil stains or leaks. My MagnaFlow chrome exhaust tips are clean. My fluids are clean. Radiator fluid is clean and oil wasn't milky and my car does not smoke at all.

So where did 5 quarts of oil go? I haven't checked the plugs yet but I don't think that will prove too much.

Assuming Walmart filled the oil level. I mean who could forget to put new oil in it?

Probably into the intake. Look into the PCV mod to hopefully correct it. Might want to look into a catch can and breather cap as well. Unfortunately this is a common problem with the 3.6.

If you don't look into these mods check your oil very often or you'll be replacing your timing chain. If the chain goes you can bend valves and then your engine is toast.

I've realized this, which is why I posted. My engine completely died on independence day. When I try and start it. Or sounds like someone is taking a hammer to my engine

Anyone have any idea how much it will cost to have it repaired rebuilt?

If it's the chain I've heard $2-3k for the job at a dealer.

Good luck getting much for it if it needs the chains replaced.

I would of course repair it first then trade it as soon as possible.

Would you guys suggest getting a first Gen V or a second? Other than the fact that it is a visible change.

If your car took 5 quarts of oil you burned the bottom end out of it and it's a write-off. Hit the junkyards and see if you can find a decent replacement

Re: where did my oil go?

My son's 2005 2.8, just had all the chains, gears, guide's and tensioner's replaced, the whole shmeal. The dealer quoted $3,200 for it all, when he told them that he was a Iraq veteran, they knocked it down to $2,000. Thank you Olsen Cadillac, our dealer of choice, who care's about our veteran's.

Unless you do all your maintenance work yourself, it's a good idea to check that the things you paid for were correctly done. Any human (including me!) is capable of failing to put the oil in the engine after an oil change, if that's what happened. And it's not just Walmart.

Re: where did my oil go?

The 3.6 gets thirsty. One feature our high feature v6's are lacking, is a proper PCV system. These things drink oil like it's nobody's business. If you decide to keep your v6 CTS, get the catch can and breather cap, and drill your PCV tube. There are DIY's and write-ups that can be found with a simple search. I made it a point to check my oil every time I filled my gas tank. It's just something you have to keep an eye on. Regular oil changes... I changed mine every 3k miles. Always kept an extra quart or two of Mobil 1 in my trunk.

If you do trade for a Vee, get the first generation, hands down. Nothing looks like the first generation CTS(V)... nothing. I think the second gen cars aren't as aggressive looking. And the V2's are heavier (but also stiffer). I don't know, I just really like the first gen CTS.
